UTBK for participants with disabilities at Unesa was held at session 7 on Thursday, April 15, 2021 in the PPTI Training Center room, Lidah Wetan Campus. The exam is from 06.45 WIB to 12.00 WIB.
After the exam took place, Unesa Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes visited each room for participants with disabilities. The man who is usually called Cak Hasan also chatted with the participants regarding the tools and techniques for implementing UTBK for disabilities.
"If there are obstacles or obstacles or input, for example, we will make it an evaluation material so that in the future we can fix it," he said. "But from the admission of the participants, thank God everything went well and they looked enthusiastic. Hopefully their test results will be as expected, "he hoped.
A total of 11 participants with disabilities took the exam in that session. They consisted of 5 blind participants who took the exam in TC 01 room and 6 disabled participants who took the exam in TC 04 room.
The participants were present early at the exam location. They were accompanied by their families to the front of the room. While in the exam room they were accompanied by supervisors plus special volunteers from lecturers and students of PLB Unesa.
Especially for participants with disabilities, Unesa provides special devices, such as checkers, styluses, paper, headsets and Non Visual Desktop Access (NVDA) software or screen reader programs that make it easier for blind participants to “read” exam questions by voice.
"For participants with disabilities who have difficulty describing pictures, for example, they can ask for guidance from their companions and supervisors," said Acep Ovel Beny, M.Pd, the supervisor and lecturer at PLB Unesa.
Then for quadriplegic participants, the technicality of the exam is almost the same as that of UTBK participants in general, but when they enter the exam room, they are accompanied by volunteers or special companions from PLB Unesa.
Muhammad Nizar, a blind participant from Jombang said that even though he has limited visual function, he is still enthusiastic about participating in UTBK. For him, limitations are not an excuse to turn hope.
In fact, this limitation should be a reason to keep getting up and fighting. "I believe that physicality can be limited, but the soul must be free to do (work, red) and determine a better future," he said.
According to him, even though he is far from Jombang, participating in UTBK is one of his struggles in continuing his education in higher education and achieving goals in the future. He continued, now is not the time to complain, because all facilities in the form of technology are available and make all matters easier.
"UTBK in Unesa is provided with complete facilities for children with special needs like me, the system is also very neat and easy to access, so my exams and friends with other disabilities, thank God, went well," said the participant who aspires to become Indonesian Language Education students That Unesa.
