Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA—The holy book Al-Qur'an is a miracle that can be approached, understood and read in various ways, one of which is through sign language. This can be seen in the 'Sign Language Koran' held by the Center for Excellence in Disability Science (PUID) together with the UNESA Deaf Community or Kotunesa on Friday, March 22 2024.
The activity is part of the UNESA PUID Ramadan Program which is taking place at the Special Needs Children Services Unit (ULABK) Campus 2 Lidah Wetan Building, this is the first routine activity every week during Ramadan. Starting from Friday, March 8 to Thursday, March 28 2024. The teacher for this program is from the Rumah Qur'an Friends of the Deaf (RQST).
Chairman of Kotunesa, Moch. Fadillah Akbar said that this activity was facilitated by the Unesa Directorate of Disabilities, attended by deaf UNESA students and a number of volunteers. For him, this activity is part of a joint effort to study and understand the Koran as a guide to human life.
“This activity was facilitated by Mr. Wagino (Director of Disabilities, ed) and Mr. Acep Ovel Novari Beny (Head of Services and Business, ed). "Our aim is to provide experience and understanding of reading the Al-Qur'an using sign language with UNESA deaf friends, as well as as a medium for seeking blessings in the holy month of Ramadan," said Moch. Fadillah Akbar.
Apart from that, it is also to introduce the medium of reading the Al-Qur'an using Sign Language to volunteers from the UNESA Disability Directorate and Special Education (PLB) students so that they can teach them how to read the Al-Qur'an use sign language with their students in the future.
With this activity, it is hoped that deaf friends will be able to increase their understanding regarding religion and how to read the Koran using sign language in accordance with the procedures and rules.
This activity is also an initial movement to socialize activities and programs, so that the results of this movement can create a disability-friendly campus environment, not only from the infrastructure aspect, but also from various more comprehensive aspects.[]
