Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA - The support and prayers of parents are indeed the 'golden ticket' for an achievement. This is what Prayoga Dwi Cahyono has proven, a student of UNESA's Physical Education, Health and Recreation study program. Yoga collected the champions at the Forki National Kerjurnas, last November 2021. Then followed by the first winner of the Inkai Kejurda, in Banyuwangi in December 2021.
Behind his achievements, the man who is usually called Yoga since childhood has often quarreled with his peers. Parents who saw his potential then encouraged Yoga to join the martial arts community. Yoga then enrolled at the Do-Indonesia Karate Institute (INKAI). "When I was little, I used to fight a lot, then my father said that instead of fighting, it's better for me to be involved in karate," he said.
Since then, he has been training regularly with the hope that one day he will become an athlete. From the start, he admitted that he had no difficulties because his determination was too strong to become an athlete. "At the beginning of learning, I had to remember all the movements I was given to practice, I followed it and practiced hard because I had the determination to be an athlete," he explained.
Enter UNESA Because of Achievement
During training and matches, he often suffered injuries. For him, it is not a problem, it has become a risk as a karate athlete. There are no results that betray the process. Yoga proves that. Regular practice and learning from each tournament made him collect a lot of champions. The achievement turned out to be sweet, he was accepted at UNESA through the achievement path.
UNESA, which excels in sports, is the right place to improve its self-defense skills. He proved that by winning 3rd place at the 2021 Forki National Championship in the Men's Individual Kumite -55kg category on 5-7 November 2021 in Bandung. Then, the 1st place winner in the 2021 Inkai Kejurda category in the Men's Individual Kumite -55kg category on 18-19 December 2021 in Banyuwangi.
Yoga said that preparations for the Inkai Championship and Forki National Championships were carried out intensely with training camps from morning to evening. "Before the championship, every day practice starts at 7-10 am followed by 3-5 pm," he said.
For this class of 2021 student, his busy schedule in training does not make him forget his duties as a student. As an athlete and student, Yoga is able to divide his time between lectures and training.
"While practicing for the championship preparation, the tasks given by the lecturers remained safely under control. So far, the exercises have not hindered me from going to college, so I have to be smart in managing my time," he said.
The toughest opponent becomes motivation
At the 2021 Forki National Championship, Yoga admitted that his toughest opponent in the semifinals were participants from DKI Jakarta. That's not a problem, it's actually a motivation to improve your skills so you can avenge your defeat in the next match.
"Even though I met in the semifinals, I was not optimal and I was not lucky enough. I still believe that in the next match I will win," said Yoga.
The third place that Yoga won at the 2021 Forki National Championship did not reduce his enthusiasm in competing, this was because he remembered the words of his coach and parents who kept him motivated.
"Keep practicing and practicing. Don't stop being a champion. It's not easy, especially if you want to be a world champion," he said.
Target Enter the National Team
Mentioned about future targets, Yoga hopes to qualify for the U21 Karate National Team which will be held this year. According to him, the national team is an opportunity to improve achievements in world championships. "Being able to qualify for the Karate National Team is the next target, hopefully it can be achieved," he said.
Young athletes from Pamekasan who also participated in the Unesa Karate UKM also hoped that more achievements would be obtained by Unesa students. "Hopefully more achievements will be obtained and the name of Unesa in Indonesia will be in the international arena," he hoped. [UNESA PR]
