Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA_The music community in the region is a forum for developing and optimizing the talents of the younger generation. Therefore, they must continue to be encouraged and supported, one of which is through training such as the one conducted by the lecturer team of the Sendratasik Department, Faculty of Language and Arts UNESA on October 31, 2021.
The team of lecturers held training on the operation of the Balok Notation software, Sibelius, to members of the Pare music group, String Ensemble. The chief executive, RR Maha Kalyana Mitta Anggoro, S.Pd., M.Pd stated that the block notation is a writing system for musical works or it can also be said as a symbol or sign to express the high and low voice that is manifested by pictures. While Sibelius is a special software for typing musical notation in the form of musical notes.
The software, he continued, is widely used by arrangers, musicians and song makers and even videographers. According to him, the ability of the music community in music notation needs to be improved, especially through the use of applications and software. The training aims to improve the ability of String Ensemble members in operating the Sibelius software as a music scoring medium.
In addition, it is also to improve skills in creating compositions, skills in making orchestral pop song arrangements and skills or skills in playing and presenting orchestral format music. In the training, the participants received theoretical material from the presenters and then continued with hands-on practice on how to operate the software on their respective devices from the initial stage to the final stage.
One of the trainers, Harpang Yudha Employeeto, S.Pd., M.Pd. said that similar training is routinely carried out every year as part of the UNESA Tridarma. “We are working with friends from the Pare String Ensemble to improve the soft skill competence of members of this community. We hope that in the future, they will be better prepared to compete with the entertainment industry market, by being better able to offer high-quality and competitive music products," he said.
Pare String Ensemble is a music community that was formed in 2017. The community focuses on the division of string instruments (stringed), namely the violin, alto violin, and cello. String Ensemble actively seeks to develop the potential of the young generation in Pare and its surroundings in the field of music. They are often invited to fill in government events and private institutions. "Seeing this potential, we took the initiative to improve our abilities and develop community skills and innovations in music," he said.
The positive collaboration or synergy between the PKM Team of the Unesa FBS Sendratasik Department and the Pare String Ensemble music community through this training activity is expected to be significantly able to become a provision for individual community members, especially in terms of soft skills. Thus, indirectly it will also provide opportunities for them (community members), either as individual music practitioners, or as a community unit in increasing productivity in music activities.
