Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA- HMJ Primary School Teacher Education UNESA held a Webinar and Rhetoric Training with the theme "The Importance of Critical Thinking and Public Speaking for Students in the Era of Society 5.0" on Friday, (10/09/2021).
A total of 390 participants from PGSD students and the general public took part in the event. The speakers presented were M. Syafiul Muktapa as Founder of Talkpede Academy and Rojil Nugroho Bayu Aji, S. Hum., M.A., as UNESA History Education Lecturer.
The event was opened by Ulhaq Zuhdi, S.Pd., M.Pd., Secretary of the PGSD Department. He said that hard skills must be accompanied by soft skills, one of which is good communication skills. “Soft skills are very important in this century. The ability to convey ideas and messages to the interlocutor without offending the other person's feelings, of course, will have a lot of influence on our personal and professional values," said Ulhaq.
Syafiul Muktapa, who is often called Kak Uta, was the first speaker to discuss “Public Speaking”. He said that public speaking is one of the key skills in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0. Because it must continue to be trained and improved.
In order to have good public speaking skills, there are some tips that need to be considered. First, keep doing the exercises. Second, pay attention to GEMES; gestures, expressions, moving, eye contact, smiling voice. Third, enrich the data and imagination in the content to be conveyed. Third, adjust the voice, intonation, volume, energy. Fourth, adjust the diction and use the correct technique.
Then how to become a great teacher with proper public speaking is divided into 5 ways. “First, use the 20:60:20 technique. Second, use story telling techniques. Third, use learning media. Fourth, use an attractive voice and the last is to advise, not limit," he said.
Rojil Nugroho Bayu Aji, S. Hum., M.A., as the second resource person explained about "The Art of Speaking in the Form of 3 Important Rhetoric Things from Aristotle". According to him, rhetoric, (1) must be able to show abilities in front of the public. (2) Able to touch the hearts of the audience in the form of feelings, emotions, and hopes. (3) Convincing the audience with evidence.
In addition, Rojil also shared tips on the art of speaking. According to him, good speaking is born from a good learning and reading process. In addition, frequent discussions, determine the rhythm of speech without text, and practice speaking with gestures. "Skill problems are not obtained by understanding, but through habit and continuous practice," said Rojil. (Esti/zam)
