Head of the Halal Center of LPPM Unesa Puput Winarti Rusmanto, S.T., M.T in his speech said that with halal regulations in Indonesia, one of them is through Law no. 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantee, the government is obliged to provide protection and guarantee for the halalness of products that are consumed and used by the public.
He continued that higher education is one of the academic institutions that can assist the implementation of halal product assurance by establishing an LPH to carry out halal examination and testing. "UNESA certainly has to take part in the assurance of halal products, for that reason, the Unesa Halal Center was established in 2019," he explained.
Specifically, added Puput, LPH aims, among others, to provide information about halal products from various aspects as a whole, provide assistance to small and medium industries in producing halal products, organize halal training for industry, academics, and the general public. "Hopefully actors and businessmen as well as business actors can understand the importance of halal certification and Unesa is ready to assist in obtaining the halal certificate," he added.
Head of LPPM Unesa Prof. Dr. Darni, M.Hum explained that the rampant globalization, world trade and the AEC have made the circulation of imported and local food and beverage products not all halal controlled. In addition, it does not necessarily provide a sense of security, comfort and fit for consumption by Muslim consumers because religion requires consuming halal products.
Darni also mentioned Law no. 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantee and the issuance of Government Regulation No. 39 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of the Halal Product Guarantee Sector. "With this regulation, it is clear that products circulating in Indonesia must be certified halal," he said. "Through this activity, the Unesa Halal Center intends to help MSMEs, ready to provide assistance to obtain halal certificates," said Darni.
