Dean of the Faculty of Language and Arts, Dr. Trisakti, M.Si., expressed his gratitude, while opening the activity, to the Permata Sakti inbound program students who had the opportunity to study at Unesa. The Dean hopes that in addition to gaining insight and knowledge in Unesa, the students will also get to know the culture of Surabaya.
"I also thank the committee for holding positive activities like this. Hopefully we can get benefits as widely as possible," said Trisakti.
Prof. Dr. Kisyani, M.Hum, who was the first speaker in the activity, explained about "Suroboyo-an Language". Kisyani invites students to get to know Surabaya cultures through their distinctive language. According to Kisyani, the Suroboyo language known as “Arek” language is part of the East Java sub-dialect.
Furthermore, Kisyani said that the Suroboyo language has differences from other languages in Indonesia, especially in terms of dialects used by most of the people of Surabaya and its surroundings. Some examples of the typical Suroboyoan vocabularies are "Rek, Cak, Ning" which are used as greeting. In addition, there are also vocabulary words like “koen”, “awakmu”, “sampean”, “lapo”, “opo'o”, “andhok”, “cangkruk” which are used as daily vocabulary.
"It should be understood that the Suroboyo language have very different characteristics from each student's area of origin, so there needs to be a deeper understanding to avoid misunderstandings," he added.
The second speaker was Prof. Setyo Yanuartuti, M.Si. and discussed about "Suroboyo Traditional Art". In his material, Setyo explained that the traditional art of Suroboyo is part of the multicultural or multi-ethnic culture of East Java. According to him, the diverse culture of East Java includes “arek” culture, “mataraman” culture, “ponorogoan” culture, “madura” culture, “osing” culture, “pandalungan” culture and “tengger” culture.
“Arek culture is a culture that is owned by the people of Surabaya, Mojokerto, Jombang, Sidoarjo and surrounding areas. Arek culture, in this case, is only owned by certain areas so that it has become a certain characteristic. For example, Ludruk art which is part of the Surabaya arek culture which has developed its own artistic character, language and specialties," he explained.
This activity received very high enthusiasm from the students. This was indicated by the number of questions and responses from the students until the end of the event. (yuris/sir)
