WILL BE MEMORABLE: Tri Jaka Setiyo Prawisma posing in one corner of the lecture building, FIKK.
Unesa. ac.id, SURABAYA—Tri Jaka Setiyo Prawisma, a deaf student from the Physical Education and Recreation Undergraduate Study Program (PJKR) Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences (FIKK) Surabaya State University (UNESA) looked relieved after completing the determining phase in his undergraduate study journey.
The class of 2020 students were declared to have passed the thesis examination which took place in the Examination Room, FIKK Building, Campus 2 Lidah Wetan, Monday, October 14 2024. If you do the math, Tri Jaka managed to complete his studies in 4.2 years.
The study period was not too fast, but many other students couldn't do it. Another extraordinary aspect is that even though he has a hearing impairment, Tri Jaka is able to prove that he can achieve his dreams and make his parents proud.
“Even though there were challenges here and there, I had to live it wholeheartedly, and finally I was able to graduate. "I would like to thank my parents, mentors, lecturers and friends who have supported me all this time," he said.
His struggle to complete his studies at UNESA received praise from the lecturers and Coordinating Study Program. Mochamad Ridwan, Coordinator of the PJKR Undergraduate Study Program, said that Tri Jaka was a student who studied diligently. His academic record also shows good results.
"This limitation does not prevent Jaka from actively participating in lectures," he said.
Ridwan explained that Tri Jaka's enthusiasm deserves a thumbs up. The reason is, he does not give up if on several occasions he cannot really listen or digest the material presented by the lecturer.
Usually, he often asks for explanations slowly so that it is easier to understand at the end of the lecture session. The lecturers also adjusted their teaching methods so that Tri Jaka could understand them.
“Their class contains 40 students. Jaka did not face any major obstacles. "The only adjustments made are in the method of delivering material by lecturers, which is given a little differently compared to students in general," he explained.
Ridwan also appreciated Tri Jaka's parents who really support their child's academic development. Jaka's parents actively communicate with academic supervisors or DPA to monitor their child's progress.
Apart from that, the students also regularly visit the study program coordinator's room (koorprodi) to ask for technical guidance regarding lectures.
Ridwan hopes that Jaka's struggle can become a real example for other students about the enthusiasm for learning who knows no boundaries, even in challenging conditions.
"Other students must be able to take positive values and valuable lessons from Jaka. For normal students, develop and utilize existing potential so that life is more meaningful," he said. . [*]
