Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-BEM of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UNESA held a Webinar International Event of Science and Technology (Intergalactic) 2021 with the theme "The Role of Science Students in Realizing Society 5.0 as a Contribution to the SDGs 2030" online on Saturday, November 13 2021.
The webinar brought three presenters namely Dr. Hedzlin Zainuddin as Associate Professor of Mara University of Technology, Malaysia, Dr. Fatimah Salim as Research Fellow Chemistry of UiTM Malaysia, and Iqbal Ainur Rizki as Achiever Gold Medalist International Invention Competition of Young Moeslem Scientist 2021. In addition, there were also two guest stars namely Jeremy Owen as Content Creator and Analysis Widyaningrum, S.Psi., M.Psi., as CEO of APDC Indonesia.
The chief executive, Ahmad Misbakhus Sururi in his speech said that science is the key in changing and developing the world. Innovation needs to be developed especially for the younger generation. According to him, the younger generation must be able to compete in the era of society 5.0. "Hopefully this webinar can develop innovations that can benefit human life," he hoped.
Head of BEM FMIPA, Toni Phebita in his speech said that this webinar at the international level was held for the first time by FMIPA students. He hopes that students can be more concerned about the role of science 5.0 as a contribution to the SDGs by 2030. "We are open to donations in contributing to UNICEF Indonesia to help Indonesian children become educated and healthy," he said.
Deputy Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni FMIPA UNESA Dr. Sifak Indana, M.Pd said that this webinar has goals and benefits for students. BEM tries to accommodate the potential that exists in Indonesia, especially science and technology and in preparing Indonesia for the future.
In his presentation, Dr. Hedzlin Zainuddin discussed 'Renewable Energy: Solar Photovoltaic System in Tropical Region'. He said solar photovoltaics could contribute to the 2030 SDGs by using affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, and climate action. Students must play a role in achieving SDGs 2030 by getting information about the SDGs, educating family and friends, exploring the reality of the SDGs and what it means for the community and country and applying their knowledge. “This includes simplifying and living within your means, building an organization or community in your place of education to contribute to the SDGs,” he said
He hopes that, in the future, developing countries, especially areas with low quality of life, can produce clean and affordable energy with good electronic waste management, so that they can live healthy and comfortable lives. He invited participants to contribute to the SDGs. "Let's contribute to the SDGs with the skills to support society 5.0 (integrating virtual space (IoT & AI) and physical space) in any area you are involved in," he said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Fatimah Salim explained about 'Density Functional Theory (DFT): A Reliable Assistant for Chiral Molecular Structural Determination'. Important natural molecules called chirals include sugars, amino acids, DNA, enzymes, and others. New chiral molecules come from nature in the form of new chemicals that have high potential to be developed into drugs. It is biogenetically related to other chiral monopen derivatives derived from antihypertensive drugs, namely prescription and ajmalicin.
According to him, determining the exact molecular structure is important for two reasons. The tragedy of thalidomide forced drug companies to reconsider enantiomers as separate molecules rather than different drug forms. “Thalidomide was a drug that was sold in the 1950s and 1960s as an anti-nausea for pregnant women. It was withdrawn from the market in 1961 because of its teratogenicity,” said Fatimah.
While in the talk session, Iqbal Ainur Rizki told his experience in the world of writing scientific papers which started when he was in high school. He took inspiration from Billy Ocean's scientific title for a title that worked well. There is a kind of inspirational expression of ideas.
Then, he can also learn to write scientific papers from his colleagues when he competed in previous competitions. The reason he has participated in many competitions during high school until now is to make his parents, school and university proud. In addition, he also wants to be proud of himself, because according to him it is difficult to balance between participating in competitions and focusing on education.
In a talk session with guest star, Jeremy Owen, he said that in facing challenges, it is necessary to be sensitive in finding the needs of people in the future, while at the same time responding to these needs creatively and innovatively.
Jeremy Owen invites participants to target new and renewable energy. "It is important to remember that in protecting the environment, throw away the cigarette waste in the trash, not on the streets. We can also protect our environment by taking care of the factory waste management from those factories," he said.
Analysis of Widyaningrum, S.Psi., M.Psi., discusses mental health. In living life, he said, feeling stressed is a natural thing, for that it is necessary to manage stress so that it is not excessive. Stress can be due to external factors, such as pressure from people around which eventually lead to an emotional response.
