Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA - Being a student must be ready to work. That is what the 2018 Fashion Design Education S-1 Study Program students show, Faculty of Engineering (FT) Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA). They held the 33rd Annual Fashion Show at the Oval Atrium Ciputra World Mall, Surabaya, Saturday (04/06/2022).
The fashion show was held offline for the first time since the Covid-19 outbreak. Dean of FT, Dr. Maspiyah, M.Kes. stated that this activity is one of the outcomes for students who are taking the Cipta Karya Busana or Cipta Karya course.
The students became designers, presenting their designs, which were worn by the female attendants and the confident-looking female attendants waddled on the catwalk. "This event is a showcase for students which is intended to give students experience as designers and event organizers," he said.
He appreciated the enthusiasm and efforts of Fashion Design students to show their best works to the fashion industry and the people of Surabaya in general. "In the future, hopefully you can continue to explore and develop expertise in the fashion sector armed with the knowledge you already have," he hoped.

The fashion show was attended by 5 studios, 39 fashion designers and presented as many as 117 of the best works. Not only that, there were 78 women's wear and 39 men's wear which were exhibited in the fashion show with the theme “SABAYA”.
SABAYA means Sobo Suroboyo or visiting Surabaya. The theme was based on the works presented at the event which were inspired by historical places in the City of Heroes, including Jalan Tunjungan, Sanggar Agung Temple, Submarine Monument, Hero Monument to the Surabaya Statue.
“The work displayed can be said to be a representation of Surabaya itself. Because there are elements in the design of the works that are displayed,” said Alifia Mutiara Nadya, Head of the Event Organizer.
He added, this year's fashion show took the theme of historical places in Surabaya as well as to welcome the momentum of Surabaya's 729th Birthday which fell on May 31, 2022.
“We were inspired by historical places in Surabaya which are iconic and attached to the original identity of Arek-arek Suroboyo city. In addition, the theme of historical places in the city of Surabaya is the first time it is displayed in a fashion creation event," said Nadya.
Nadya said the fashion show consisted of 6 categories, namely day wear, casual wear, office wear, travel wear, evening wear, and special wear.
For example, the student works displayed by studio 1 carried the theme of the Surabaya Statue. The clothing displays the iconic side of the Surabaya City symbol, namely "Sura" which means brave and "Baya" which means 'danger'.
"All the works inspired by the Surabaya statue have a touch of green, gray, gold, black and white colors that give the impression of being elegant, charismatic, and authoritative," he explained.
