Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA–The National Sports Day (HAORNAS) which 'falls' on September 9, 2021, has become an important momentum for the world of Indonesian sports. UNESA as a university that has long been involved in advancing national sports has its own way of celebrating the 2021 Haornas.
First, holding an international webinar discussing the world of national sports. Second, holding national sports championships. Dr. Setiyo Hartoto, M.Kes., Dean of FIO said that in this kind of pandemic situation it is difficult to carry out activities offline. So that some activities have to be carried out in a hybrid way. "Like the Haornas ceremony, for example, we hold it in a hybrid way," he said.
Abdul Hafidz, S.Pd., M.Pd., as the deputy dean for student affairs and alumni of the Faculty of Sports Science said that the activity would involve students including the student association of majors or BEM. "This is a sporting momentum, of course we at the sports science faculty have a responsibility to commemorate this Haornas based on innovation and achievement," he said.
In discussion activities, he continued, students are encouraged to be able to discuss important issues in the world of sports. They are also required to find solutions to problems in the field of sports in Indonesia. "We encourage these students as agents of change as well as spearheads in the development of Indonesian sports," he said.
Third, UNESA provides free educational scholarships for athletes competing in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes as the Chancellor of UNESA said that during a live Instagram with the Head of East Java Dispora Drs. Supratomo, M.Si and Khalimatus Sa'diyah, paralympic athletes from East Java on August 25, 2021.
The scholarships are not only for those who come home with medals, but for all athletes who are fighting in this prestigious world sport event. "From them, if anyone is interested in studying for S-1, S-2 or S-3, please, we will prepare it for free," he said.
The man who is usually called Cak Hasan continued that the free education was UNESA's effort to give appreciation to athletes with disabilities. In addition, as a form of UNESA's commitment as a disability-friendly campus in encouraging and improving sports achievements with disabilities in particular and Indonesian sports in general.
UNESA's commitment in advancing national sports, he continued, can also be seen from the development of sport science at the Asian level and is included in the best sport science in Indonesia. Then the facilities and infrastructure for education, coaching and training of national athletes are even used by international level athletes.
