Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA -There are many ways that can be done to commemorate International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, 2021. One of them can be by holding a webinar like the one held by the National Achievement Center on Saturday, December 4, 2021. The webinar carries the theme “Creativity Without Boundaries for a Strong Indonesia, Indonesia Grows” .
On that occasion, UNESA Professor Prof. Dr. Budiyanto, M.Pd., was present as a speaker with Asep Sukmayadi, S.IP., M.Sc., Plt. Head of Puspresnas; Dr. Mimi Mariani Lusli, Founder of Mimi Institute; and Fanny Evrita Rotua Ritonga, Founder of Thisable Beauty Care. In addition, there is Atikah Fina Wulandari, the Best Performer for the Blind at the HDI 2020 Creative and Appreciation Event for Students with Special Needs (AKA-PDBK), Kezia Karuniawati is also the Best Performer for the AKA-PDBK HDI 2020, and Reza Febri Abadi, M.Pd. , as a moderator.
In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Budiyanto, M.Pd., stated that the number of people with disabilities in the world is almost billions. Meanwhile in Indonesia, based on BPS 2020 data, the number of people with disabilities reached 22.5 million or about 5 percent of the total population of Indonesia.
According to him, people with disabilities do have shortcomings. However, they also have potential and privileges that are sometimes not owned by people in general. "Because theoretically, each disability is unique and has advantages in certain fields," explained the man who is also the head of the UNESA PSLD.
He gave an example, groups with low intellectual disability actually have advantages in other aspects. If these advantages are pitted against normal people, they cannot outperform them. "Simply put, the blind have the ability to master a lot of word cities than normal people," he explained.
Fanny Evrita Rotua Ritonga, who is one of the physically disabled people who successfully became the founder of a skincare company and is now also a special staff member of the President of the Republic of Indonesia. He provides support to people with disabilities, especially in the world of education, not to give up easily in reaching their education to college.
People with disabilities now have many opportunities to develop themselves, one of which is being able to continue their higher education abroad. The embassy has prepared a special slot for people with disabilities. "So we are given positive affirmations so that we are given encouragement or inducements so that we can continue our education in the special scholarship path for disabilities," said Fanny.
Atikah Fani Wulandari, who is the Best Performer for the Blind at the 2020 Creation and Appreciation Event for Students with Special Needs (PDBK) hopes that various infrastructure and public services will be more disability-friendly. No more discrimination and looking down on your disability.
"I believe, we can walk together to create a friendly world and community environment for the growth and development of the potential of persons with disabilities," he said. [UNESA PR]
