Unesa. AC ID. SURABAYA, 6 August 2024—Surabaya State University (UNESA) is proud to announce that they have been re-elected as site partner to manage the Access Scholarship Program period 2024-2026 in the Surabaya region. This program is a global initiative carried out in collaboration with UNESA and the International Indonesia Education Foundation (IIEF), and sponsored by the Regional English Language Office (RELO) of the United States Embassy.
The Access Program in Surabaya will accept a total of 40 Participants consisted of 20 university students and 20 high school students. They are students who were selected based on good academic achievements and come from underprivileged families.
The Access Program in Surabaya offers various activities aimed at improving the English language skills and life skills of the participants. These activities include:
- Intensive English Classes: Intensive training to improve listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in English. < li>Extracurricular Activities: A variety of activities that develop critical thinking, leadership, and teamwork skills.
- Community Projects: Participants will be involved in projects- projects that benefit the community, helping them to apply the skills they have learned.
- Understanding American Culture: Activities that introduce participants to the culture and values of the United States, enhancing intercultural relations.
This program will be managed by the UNESA Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS), which will involving experts, lecturers, staff, and students from three study programs: Bachelor of English Education, Bachelor of English Literature, and Master of English Language Education.
Arik Susanti, Site Coordinator of this program, stated, "This is a commitment UNESA provides community service in the academic field through quality English learning. We hope that this program can open greater access for participants in the future."
The Dean of FBS UNESA, Syafiul Anam, Ph.D., added, "This Access Program also supports international community service cooperation. society in the academic field. This adds to our international cooperation, especially with RELO. Previously we also had a fellow (Phillip Taw), God willing, he will join us in September."
In the previous edition, UNESA was also selected as a site partner for the Access Program for the 2020-2022 period. At that time, during the pandemic, Activities are carried out in a hybrid manner, namely online and offline at the UNESA Language Center. The implementing team from UNESA led by the Dean of FBS was selected after proposing a program proposal to IIEF in July 2024.
This program will be implemented in October 2024, simultaneously in 10 cities in Indonesia. Prospective participants are asked to follow the information on the UNESA website and social media for outreach. Registration for the Access Program will be open in mid-August to early September, and this program will start in October 2024.[*]
