Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-The number of MSMEs in the city of Surabaya has reached more than 6 thousand spread across various regions. This figure is certainly a potential plus opportunity to improve the community's economy, but on the other hand it can be a problem if business actors are not equipped with the capabilities that support the sustainability of their business.
The findings of KKN-T students at the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) in Ketabang Village, Genteng District, Surabaya, many MSME actors there found the main problem that hindered their business development, namely not having marketing skills. Most of them do not understand aspects of product marketing such as product photos, product narratives, and the use of social media as a marketing medium.
To overcome this problem, the KKNT team coordinated with the local sub-district and sub-district governments and then carried out the Digitization program in MSME Product Marketing. The students who have product photo skills provide photo training for MSME products using cellphones and simple materials at home.
“We provide training for the residents of MSMEs on how to take pictures of products that can be promoted on social media. On average they have good cellphones. Instead of scrolling through social media to see people's status or stories, it's better to use this to introduce products to the public," said Mochammad Affif, head of the UNESA KKN-T group.
Not only that, they also provide material related to making product narratives that must be included when doing marketing, as well as how to manage social media such as Instagram. Because there are many MSME owners who are still new to marketing through Instagram media. They also help take pictures of registered MSME products which can then be used as promotions.
Kampoeng Digitization
In addition, since March 2022, they have also run a number of other excellent programs such as the village digitization program or 'Kampoeng Oase Ondomohen Goes to Digita'. Oase Village Ondomohen Magersari, Ketabang Village, Genteng, Surabaya is an ecotourism village that often gets awards.
Because the village is often visited as a pilot village, so it needs to be maintained and developed again. The KKN team thought about how to get visitors recorded properly and easily. Finally they have the idea to make visitor data collection by scanning barcodes. The barcode can also be connected directly to the Kampoeng Oase Ondomohen website.
Affif explained, to revive the euphoria of post-pandemic visitors, his team carried out a number of repairs at Kampoeng Oase Ondomohen, including repairing photo spots, bringing back an abandoned reading corner with books and making a mural on cloth measuring 5.70 x 3 meters which was then used to create a mural. spread out in the village alley. "We are also improving the narration and photos on the website and Instagram of Kampoeng Oase Ondomohen," he explained.
Muhammad Aries Hilmi, S.STP Head of Genteng Subdistrict, appreciated the work program of the UNESA KKN-T friends. He said he would continue the program because it was proven to provide a number of benefits for the community and the village. “We want to turn Kampoeng Oase Ondomohen into Ondomohen Romansa like Tunjungan Romansa. Existing MSME actors will continue to be encouraged through bazaar programs, mentoring and so on," he said. Appreciation also came from Adi Candra, S.Si., M.Si as the supervisor of Kampung Oase Surabaya and Musmulyono as the Chairperson of Kampoeng Oase Ondomohen Surabaya. They hope that collaboration will continue, including with the next generation of UNESA KKN-T. [UNESA PR]
