Unesa.ac.id, Surabaya - Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Unesa) sends volunteers to help people who affected by the earthquake in Mamuju and Majene Regency, West Sulawesi on Friday (22/1). The release was led directly by the Rector and his staff in the Lobby of rectorate Unesa Lidah Wetan.
Based on the letter of assignment, volunteers sent as many as 10 people consisting of one chief executive and nine people as members. There were six students from various courses, two public relations teams and two others who served as escorts. They will be volunteering for five days or from January 23-27 at the destination.
Chairman of The Crisis Center Mitigation Unit Unesa Dr. Diana Rahmasari, S.Psi, M.Si., said that the departure of the volunteer team from Unesa was based on many considerations that had been carefully reviewed. Because, the location of volunteer delivery in addition to prone to subsequent disasters, also in pandemic situations. Of course the risks are big and must be very careful.
Therefore, the volunteers that Unesa sent especially students must be permission from their parents or guardians, as evidenced by a certificate of stamped parental consent. Those who leave must be free of Covid-19 with evidence of PCR test negative results. PCR tests will be done when they return home.
In addition, team members were given special briefings in advance, most not least about physical and psychic health as well as sop health protocols. Then, will continue to coordinate in anticipation of unwanted things. "Most importantly, the condition of the team, that's what needs to be taken care of properly," he said.
He added that the main principle in humanitarian duty is to collaboration. Therefore, the volunteers from unesa will collaborate with volunteers from other universities (PT). Each campus performs tasks according to their own characteristics and advantages. "Unesa's task is more towards psychoedukasi and trauma healing for children, teenagers or communities affected by the earthquake," concluded Dr. Diana Rahmasari, S.Psi, M.Si., during the release ceremony.
Rector Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., on that occasion also said that concern for others must continue to be grown in real action in the field. Despite the pandemic situation and disaster prone, but humanitarian action should not stop. Precisely, because of the pandemic and the difficult situation, conscience must continue to be echoed to help each other. "Because to get out of the nation's problems, we need cooperation," he said.
The man who is familiarly called Cak Hasan told the team of volunteers that the departure must be understood as a learning process as well as worship to foster empathy for others and strengthen caring to others. "Unesa’s really proud, the team set out with a heart, full of self-awareness to help others," he said.
Then, rector also emphasized that always be disciplined to comply with health protocols. For members who feel tired, must quickly rest. Regular exercise and of course also worship. "Again do not neglect, try to remain disciplined using health protocols" he said again. "Since it's a pandemic, consider someone else sick and assume all the places are infected. Therefore it must be careful and disciplined," he continued.
Furthermore, Unesa prepares special scholarships for students affected by the earthquake in Majene and Mamuju districts if they plan to continue their studies in Unesa. Students from both regions who are currently active as students in Unesa are also given a remission of school tuition (UKT). Then, for volunteers who leave will be prepared a special charter on his return. "For scholarships we prepare special children of disaster victims who will and are studying in Unesa," he said. "In addition, the volunteers who goes on duty also had a special appreciation from Unesa," he concluded.
The release ceremony of the volunteer team ended with a prayer with the entire rectorate and the visiting team. All that is done both against the pandemic and the struggle to help disaster victims as a manifestation of Unesa's involvement in humanitarian action, and a real contribution to a better Indonesia.
