Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-The State University of Surabaya became a regional training center (Puslatda) East Java for the XX National Sports Week (PON) and the XVI National Paralympic Week (PEPARNAS) in Papua.
Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Bambang Yulianto, M.Pd., explained that UNESA provides support to athletes who will compete in the national sports event. The form of support is in the form of facilities and infrastructure needed during the training. Starting from transportation to lodging.
Supporting training facilities were also deployed with the hope that the training process and preparation of the best East Java athletes could be maximized so that later they could get the best achievements for East Java. "We need to aspire to achievement, plan, and strive together with the right strategy," he said.
Roy Soselisa, M.Pd., as the Commander of the East Java Province NPCI Training Center at UNESA explained that in the two national sports events, East Java was strengthened by 71 athletes and 22 coaches from 10 sports. Currently, they are following the training process at UNESA since July 2, 2021 until before their departure to Papua later.
He continued, during training at UNESA, the progress of the athletes was extraordinary and he was optimistic that the best sons and daughters of East Java could provide maximum results and achieve targets. For achievements, East Java targets to be able to pocket 21 gold, 13 silver, 16 bronze. "Hopefully we can improve the previous ranking in the 8th rank to rise to the top five national rankings," he said.
In the sports week, the toughest competitor of East Java is the host. By looking at the new regulations with the distinction between elite, national, international and beginner athletes, he is optimistic that East Java can achieve the target.
Judo athlete NPCI Puslatda East Java, Agung Gondolimo targets to be able to pocket the gold medal at the PON and PEPARNAS. Because of that, he and his colleagues continued to fight and train well until they were able to achieve good results as well.
