UNESA and FIKK leaders symbolically handed over awards as a form of appreciation to outstanding athletes at the 2024 Haornas Celebration.
Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA—Surabaya State University (UNESA) gives appreciation to outstanding students or athletes who have struggled to make their alma mater and region proud at the National Sports Week (PON) and National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) 2024.
This appreciation was given in the peak event or celebration of the 2024 National Sports Day (Haornas) held by the Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences (FIKK) at the UNESA GOR Campus 2 Lidah Wetan, Surabaya on Wednesday, 17 October 2024.
UNESA Chancellor, Nurhasan or others familiarly known as Cak Hasan, said that UNESA's way of appreciating the struggles of athletes and the education and development schemes for athletes could be a reference for other university chancellors.

"We don't want to hear about "Athletes who have been training hard, fighting to bring the name of their region and country to competitions, but they must be given minimal guarantees for their education and career so they can focus on training and achieving achievements," said Cak Hasan.
The Chairman of the East Java KONI, Muhammad Nabil, appreciated UNESA's important role in advancing and improving sports achievements in East Java through the contribution of human resources, infrastructure and the application of sports sciences.
Apart from that, UNESA also does not hesitate to appreciate athletes who excel on the national and international stage, both in the form of coaching budgets and study scholarships.
"We also appreciate that the Chancellor, Cak Hasan, has his own lecture system for athletes, so that when their studies work, their achievements also work. Don't go the other way around, achievements work, lectures don't work or vice versa," he said.

Regarding the summit of Haornas, Dean of FIKK , Dwi Cahyo Kartiko explained that this year's activities were packaged to accommodate student interest, creativity and innovation in the field of sports.
"We held an exhibition which, if we look at it, each study program at FIKK showcased its respective superior innovations and technologies that are needed in the world of education and development in the world of sports," said the FIKK professor.
Apart from that, this activity is also intended to instill the spirit of champions, the spirit of sportsmanship and the spirit of sports in students and society in general. This is important, because increasing achievement needs to be supported by increasing interest or culture of sports in society.
The 2024 Haornas Summit, which consists of several series, was attended by the Chair of the East Java KONI, representatives of the East Java Dispora, FIKK students, outstanding athletes, and university leadership, and deans around the 'Home of Champions' campus.[*]
