Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-For the first time, TEDx Universitas Negeri Surabaya held an online webinar with the theme “How Art Heals Our Soul” on Saturday, June 18, 2022. TEDx is a conference that invites speakers to share motivational and inspirational stories that deserve to be shared with the public. The event was attended by participants from various backgrounds.
As a speaker, Benny Widyo, Artistic Director and Tutik Muliani, a UNESA Alumni as well as a Disability Activist, attended. The first material was opened by Benny Widyo with the theme "In a Healthy Art (Ecosystem), There is a Strong Soul".

Art, he continued, is a means of venting emotions, such as graffiti and others. According to the speaker who had a role in Gulung Tukar, art is a safe place to vent all problems, so that you can cure problems, even mental health problems. "Art has to do with subtlety or sensitivity of the soul in seeing and responding to reality," he said.
As the second speaker, Tutik Muliani shared his experience while mentoring friends with disabilities. He once accompanied Kevin Drummer with autism spectrum, who previously used drumming as a means of calming himself down and could only hit without producing certain notes.
Kevin is now a drummer whose work has received appreciation at the Disability Talent Challenge PSLD UNESA 2021 by winning 3rd place. Everything that can be achieved by friends with disabilities, especially in the arts, requires strong guidance and effort.
Willingness to enable persons with disabilities to maximize their potential for their future. "When we know our talents and abilities, we will be empowered to be human," he said.
For information, the webinar is a pre-event for TEDx UNESA ahead of the main event on June 25, 2022. The theme "How Art Heals Our Soul" was inspired by the combination of UNESA's advantages, two of which are in the fields of art and disability. The activity was handled by the X-Team, which consisted of 30 UNESA students.
They hope that both art and disability can complement each other. "Art and disability are big examples that are often found in the public, but it is still rare to talk about how disability and art are actually correlated," said Nabila Habibah, the committee. [UNESA PR]
