Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA—Japanese Language Education Undergraduate Study Program student, Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS) Surabaya State University (UNESA), Muhammad Amirullah Al Farizi made his alma mater and the East Java region proud at the XXI Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON) 2024 which took place on 9-20 September 2024.
Amirullah Al Farizi won two gold medals at once in diving sports (pool and sea). The two highest medals were won in the 100 m surface number and the 200 m surface number. This medal further strengthens the position of the East Java Contingent in third place in the XXI PON temporary standings.
"Very happy of course because I was able to present the best results for East Java. I am grateful to be able to take part in PON for the first time and to be able to bring home gold," he said after the awarding.
Obtaining this medal was certainly not a coincidence, but through long struggle, disciplined, consistent training and thorough preparation. In fact, to improve his performance, Amirullah Al Farizi had to train abroad.
"Intensive preparation since last year and going through many selections to be able to take part in PON. I also took part in a training camp in China for 6 weeks to train physically and mentally. Yes, if you want good results, the preparation must be thorough and that's good too," he said.
He hopes that the medal he has won will inspire the entire East Java contingent to achieve the overall championship target. Apart from that, it also motivates him to continue to improve his performance in future competitions.
This achievement received appreciation from the FBS leadership. The Dean of FBS, Syafi'ul Anam, who was also present to watch his students' competition, praised the students' struggle and performance at the PON.
According to him, this achievement further strengthens UNESA's superiority, one of which is in the field of sports. This means that UNESA's talented athletes are not only born from the Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences, but also from the Faculty of Language Arts (FBS), and other faculties around UNESA.
"This achievement is extraordinary and makes the institution and the UNESA family in general proud. Hopefully, this will be our shared enthusiasm to continue achieving achievements that will make our alma mater, region and homeland proud," said the dean.
The Chancellor of UNESA, Nurhasan or who is familiarly called Cak Hasan, appreciated the struggle and achievements obtained by his students in the PON. According to him, it not only makes his alma mater proud, but also the name of the East Java region. For Cak Hasan, this achievement can strengthen the winning tradition for the 'Home of Champions' campus.
“This PON is proof that UNESA shows its important position as a medal barn for East Java in all sports. This also strengthens UNESA as the 'Home of Champions' campus which always adheres to the principles and commitment of One Step Ahead. "Don't stop at PON, but continue this achievement at world level," said Cak Hasan enthusiastically.[]
