Group gymnastics kicks off the Elderly Festival organized by the UNESA Faculty of Psychology
Unesa.ac.id., SURABAYA—Hundreds of elderly people filled the Rectorate of the State University of Surabaya (UNESA), on Saturday, 02 November 2024. They showed off their skills (got talent), lived counseling, and free health checks at the Elderly Festival organized by the Faculty of Psychology (FPsi) UNESA.
The festival in commemoration of Mental Health Month and UNESA's 60th Anniversary carries the theme "Healthy, Resilient and Happy Elderly to Achieve a Meaningful Quality of Life."
Diana Rahmasari , Dean of FPsi said that the importance of mental health for the elderly cannot be ignored. Mental health is actually an issue that is relevant to all groups, from children to the elderly.

“With this festival, we "I want to provide space for the elderly, especially considering that support from family and the surrounding environment has a big influence on their mental health," he said.
This festival was attended by approximately 400 elderly participants, who came from the UNESA Pensioners Association and assisted elderly communities East Java Provincial Social Service.
Various interesting activities are being prepared, such as talent shows, free health checks and counseling, group gymnastics, blood donations, educational games, etc
"UNESA is committed to continuing to make a real contribution in supporting the mental health of the community, which we are specializing in this opportunity for the elderly," said the UNESA psychologist.
Head of Rehabilitation Division East Java Province Social Service, Muhammad Arif Ardiansyah, in his speech expressed his appreciation for holding this event and emphasized the importance of mental health for the elderly in East Java.
"This activity is very good for supporting the mental health of the elderly, which of course needs attention and support from the surrounding environment," he said

He also explained that the Social Service has seven Technical Implementation Units (UPT) in various regions in East Java which specifically provide services for elderly people in need, as well as several assistance programs such as PKH Plus and Food Social Assistance.
"Seniors need to stay active, do positive activities, and be able to gather together so they can still feel happy and have a meaningful life," he added.
It is hoped that this activity can be a step real in supporting mental health for all age groups, especially the elderly, as well as being an example for other communities in providing more attention to the welfare of the elderly in society.[*]
