SURABAYA—In the context of the 60th Anniversary, Surabaya State University (UNESA) through the Nature Lovers Student Association (Himapala) held the 2024 UNESA Chancellor's Cup Climbing Competition which was attended by hundreds of participants from all over Java and Bali. This competition was held and opened by UNESA leaders at the rectorate field, Campus 2 Lidah Wetan, Surabaya, on Thursday, July 25 2024.
The chairman of the committee, Calvin Yuriko, said that hundreds of participants came from various regions throughout Java. and Bali took part in a number of competition categories, namely U13, U19, and the Himapala category, which was attended by nature-loving students from various universities.
"Hopefully we have been preparing this event since January to produce talented young talents in the sport of rock climbing. Apart from that, it is also to instill the spirit of sport in the community," said the D-4 Graphic Design student.
In his speech, Martadi, Deputy Chancellor IV for Planning, Development, Cooperation and Information and Communication Technology at UNESA said that activities like this were important to hold so that they could produce superior seeds in the field of sports, especially rock climbing.
This rock climbing competition was fierce, the main winner was the UNESA Chancellor's Cup.
"Competition "There are many benefits like this, we can educate the generation from an early age about the meaning of struggling to achieve goals. Apart from that, participants who compete must continue to try and train hard, and become the best version of themselves yesterday," he said.
Martadi appreciated the hard work of Himapala UNESA in organizing the 2024 UNESA Chancellor's Cup Climbing Competition. He also expressed his thanks to all the committee members, officials, participants, supervisors, the team of the Directorate of Student Affairs and Alumni, and parents who participated and made this activity a success.
"Hopefully the competition which will take place over the next three days will give birth to potential great athletes from Indonesia who will fly red and white on the podium at national and international competitions," he hoped.
UNESA Himapala lecturer, Pratiwi Retnaningdyah, hopes that this competition will not only produce champions, but will also be able to encourage enthusiasm for sports from an early age.
"If there is a competition like this, children will be more motivated to practice developing their abilities. Hopefully, many young athletes will be born from this competition and sport will not only become a hobby, but a necessity in society," said the professor UNESA's Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS).
