Unesa. AC ID. SURABAYA—Hundreds of participants from various cities and districts took part in the 2024 UNESA Rector Cup II Taekwondo Championship "Poomsae-Kyorugi Festival" at the International Futsal GOR, Lidah Wetan Campus II, on Friday-Sunday, 6-8 September 2024.
This competition is part of a project to implement the Sports Management Management course for Sports Coaching Education students class of 2021 involving UNESA Taekwondo UKM and supported by the Youth and Sports Service (Dispora) and KONI East Java.
The championship is divided into two main categories: kyorugi or fighting and poomsae or art. On the first day, 135 participants competed in the achievement class, while on the second day 438 participants competed in the festival category which was more open to beginners.
Deputy General Chair of the East Java Indonesian Taekwondo Provincial Committee (TI Jatim), Hendra Prastiyawan emphasized the importance of sportsmanship and achievements achieved through hard work and practice. This championship is an achievement development event.
One of the participants showed his ability in the poomsae or art category.
"So ", stay enthusiastic and achieve the best possible results. For those who win, don't be arrogant, stay humble. For those who haven't succeeded, increase your training for better results in the next event," he said.
Hendra also said that. The East Java Provincial Government will continue to support activities like this, because it is part of nurturing a generation of athletes who will carry the name of East Java at the national and international level.
This championship coincides with the commemoration of National Sports Day (Haornas) 2024. "Hopefully sustainable events like this will have a positive impact and give birth to new athletes," he concluded.
Muhammad Tegar Agus Priambudi, chief organizer, said that this competition involved participants from various regions in East Java, including Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Magetan and Kediri.
"We hope to provide greater opportunities for young athletes in East Java to develop their talents," he said.
Hundreds of participants from various cities and the district showed off its skills in the UNESA Chancellor's Cup Taekwondo Championship.
Meanwhile , lecturer in the Taekwondo Sports Coaching course, Muhammad Kharis Fajar, explained that the aim of this event was not only to create experience in organizing sports events, but also to discover new taekwondo athletes from students to students.
"From this course, students learn directly how the theory they learn in class can be applied on a large scale like this championship. We want them to understand the essence of effective management, from planning to execution in the field ," he explained.
Kharis also emphasized that this activity has strategic value in developing athletes. They deliberately target young athletes starting from cadet and pre-cadet levels, even from 8 to 9 years old.
From that age, the team can see the potential of athletes who can later be developed further.
This championship is also a place to search for talent and talents new athletes who will be projected to become East Java's mainstay athletes in national and even international level championships.
Kharis hopes so that students can take important evaluations from the implementation of this event, so that the next championship can run better and be more organized.
"We will continue to accompany them to be able to improve existing weaknesses and produce a more successful championship in the future," he added.
One of the competition participants, Muhammad Tegara, wants the championship This could become a routine biannual agenda.
"We hope that this can become an annual or biennial event, where UNESA Taekwondo UKM and students can continue to collaborate in holding bigger championships in the future," he said.
The Championship Taekwondo UNESA Rector Cup II "Poomsae-Kyorugi Festival" 2024 not only presents competitive competition between athletes, but also becomes an opportunity to develop managerial skills for students and advance taekwondo development in the East Java region.[]
