Unesa.ac.id, Surabaya-The ranks of the Faculty of Language and Arts (FBS), State University of Surabaya should be proud. The reason is, one of his students has just made an achievement at the national level in the 2021 National Poetry Writing Competition by Indonesian Literature Window.
The student is Rani Nilasari, a woman born in Ponorogo who is currently in the fourth semester of the Indonesian Language and Literature Department, UNESA. Through her work, Dialog Candikala, the woman from Selur Village, Ngrayun District, Ponorogo was able to shift many of the other participant's texts and came out as the first winner in the poetry creation competition.
According to the competition committee, the poetry by Rani Nilasari and two other participants who won second and third place was a work with excellent poetry writing and according to the existing poetry competition assessment criteria. Their manuscript was then recorded under the title Catalog of Love in Literature.
Achievements do not come suddenly. Nor is it necessarily because of talent. But also because of the hours of flying, perseverance, and continuous practice without limits. That's what Rani Nilasari did. Already a hundred more poems that were born from his hand. His daily life experiences are expressed and immortalized into poetry. "I want to express all worries and perpetuate life through it," he said.
He said that, the journey of writing poetry began when he was in Junior High School (SMP). His writing talent was discovered by one of his teachers at the time. It was the teacher who encouraged and motivated him to write poetry and short stories and the results were displayed on the school wall magazine. Occasionally his work was sent to national newspapers and published.
His hobby of writing began to be taken seriously in Senior High School (SMA). He started participating in competitions at the school, district, even provincial and national levels. Had failed to become a champion, but he chose to continue to fight and work. Until finally he won champion after champion and trophies and certificates of achievement colored the corners of the wardrobes.
Rani said that he often won competitions and the latest and most memorable is that in 2017 he was included in the 200 writers of the Asean Poetry Writing Competition Setitik Embun Community. Then won the Shalaazz Community National Poetry Writing Competition in 2019. Then entered the 50 best writers in the UNS National Short Story Poetry Writing competition, and many more.
The woman who also likes singing said that in her daily life, apart from writing poetry for her social media content, she is also often asked by her friends to make beautiful sentences both for certain sayings and just for captions on social media. Because of his talent and shrewdness in writing, he was anchored in the Department of Indonesian Language and Literature, UNESA.
With her writing skills, Rani aspires to benefit others. One of the things he plans in the future is to establish a literacy village in his village, Selur, Kacamatan Ngrayun. According to him, the village will live if the imagination of the people is alive, one way to turn on that imagination is through literacy.
"I will dedicate myself to building a literacy base in the village. Anyway, I want to be a useful human being for my parents, religion, society, nation and state, "he said firmly.
