Sharing governance of UNESA and UMN disability services
Unesa.ac.id., SURABAYA—The leadership of the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) welcomed the delegation of Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) on a comparative study visit related to the unit disability services on Tuesday, July 16 2024 in the Meeting Room on the 9th floor of the Rectorate Building, Campus 2 Lidah Wetan.
This visit aims to increase UMN's awareness and knowledge regarding disability services in the university environment. The UMN delegation was led by the Student Affairs Manager, Krizia Angelina, S.Sn., along with three other staff.
From UNESA, the Director of Disabilities, Dr. Wagino, M.Pd., along with the ranks of the UNESA PUID sub-directorate, including Prof. Dr. Sujarwanto, M.Pd., Acep Ovel Novari Beny, S.Pd., M.Pd., and other leaders.
Prof. Sujarwanto welcomed the arrival of the UMN delegation. He hopes that this visit can be an opportunity for mutual learning and improving the quality of services for students with disabilities at both universities.
In his presentation, Acep Ovel Novari Beny, S.Pd., M.Pd., explained various UNESA innovations in the field of disabilities, including the launch of Disability Inclusion Metrics (UNESA-DIMETRIC) since 2022, an international ranking that followed by various universities from within and outside the country.
Discussion on governance of disability services between UNESA and UMN
PUID UNESA is also known to have an extensive network internationally, including Glasgow University in Scotland and Flinders University and Sydney University in Australia. The UMN delegation was invited to review UNESA's disability-friendly facilities, such as study rooms, assistive technology devices, as well as academic and non-academic support systems.
Krizia Angelina expressed her admiration for the facilities and programs at PUID UNESA. "We are very impressed with the facilities and programs that PUID UNESA has. The information we get here really helps answer our concerns and questions, which we can adopt at UMN to improve services for students with disabilities," he said.
The event closed with a question and answer session and discussion regarding the challenges and opportunities in developing disability services in higher education. Both parties agreed to continue to establish communication and collaboration in various activities that support inclusivity and accessibility for students with disabilities.This comparative study visit is expected to provide new insights for UMN in developing better disability service units, as well as is the first step to establishing closer cooperation between UMN and UNESA in the future.[]
