UNESA Educational Technology Masters Team together with several training participants and accompanying teachers at Barunawati High School Surabaya.
SURABAYA— The Master of Education Technology (S-2 TP) Study Program (Prodi), Faculty of Education (FIP), Surabaya State University (UNESA) held basic journalism training which was attended by students specializing in extracurricular journalism from Barunawati High School (Smaruna) Surabaya, on June 14 2024.
The training, which was attended by 37 students in the Smaruna Hall, was part of the final project of Master of Education Technology students. The aim is to improve the students' understanding of journalistic concepts and skills.
UNESA Educational Technology Master's Study Program Coordinator, Dr. Mr. "Well, there are many TP master students, some are teachers, lecturers and professionals such as journalists who of course must be involved in improving students' understanding or skills in the field of journalism in schools," he said.
This basic journalism training is carried out. periodically in three meetings with a different model from training in general. This training uses the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model or project-based learning which makes it easier for students to understand and have news writing skills.
"PJBL has several advantages such as increasing students' abilities, critical thinking and creativity in producing products such as news. Apart from that, it increases students' active involvement in the training material," said Fajar Arianto, supervisor of 2 trainings.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Siti Masitoh, M.Pd., training supervisor 1, added that PJBL model training is a new direction for journalism training. The characteristics of the training material, the objectives of the training, and the characteristics of the model used have a suitable aspect seen from the results of previous research.
"Apart from that, journalism training has so far been seen more as regular learning material such as Indonesian for example. This training focuses "maximizing student extracurriculars to improve students' 21st century competencies, especially at Barunawati High School Surabaya," said the professor and coordinator of UNESA's Master of Special Education (PLB) program.
This training material was delivered by Hisyam, UNESA Educational Technology Masters student as well as practitioner of digital journalism and public relations journalism, together with Abd Rohman as Community Ambassador Editor and journalism extracurricular teacher at Barunawati High School Surabaya.
Principal of Barunawati High School Surabaya, Dian Rahmawati, S.Psi., expressed his gratitude for the implementation of the training by the UNESA TP Master's Study Program. According to him, this training is important to strengthen extracurricular journalism activities in his school.
"Hopefully the training will not stop here, but can continue in the future, not only written news, but also journalistic photos and videos," he said. []
