Unesa.ac.id, Surabaya-The Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Education (FIP) held a National Personal Branding Webinar entitled "The Importance of Personal Branding for Future Careers". This webinar which was held on Saturday (31/07/2021) discussed how to use social media for personal branding purposes to support future careers.
This webinar presents speakers such as Vinda Maya Setianingrum, S.Sos., M.A. as Lecturer of Communication Studies at Unesa and Head of UPT Humas Unesa, Shelly Andari, S.Pd., M.Pd as Lecturer of FIP Unesa, and Geza Al-Banna as PR Polytechnic LP3I, Jakarta.
The Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni, FIP Unesa, Haryanto Susilo S.Pd., M.Pd on that occasion expressed his hopes for the implementation of the event. Through this webinar, he said, it can provide insight to the participants in recognizing and exploring their potential to become individuals who have competence and integrity.
"This can be built through personal branding, it can motivate him to become a potential and competent person," he said. "I hope that participants can also realize that everyone has their own characteristics and uniqueness," he continued.
Vinda Maya Setianingrum, on that occasion delivered material about the importance and essence of personal branding. He said that personal branding means what other people say or what other people think about someone.
According to him, personal branding is important, because it can communicate to others about who, what one can do for other people or institutions and how to create value for others and what others expect when communicating.
In addition, it can influence or convince others. "With personal branding, we can make relationships have the view that we are the only ones they need in solving their problems," he said.
Meanwhile, Shelly Andari, the second speaker, conveyed several ways to maintain personal branding. One of them is by using social media. Another way that can be used is to advocate for the company by showing a genuine interest in the content uploaded by the company and the place of work or campus. He also revealed that building personal branding can also be done by giving opinions.
“Giving an opinion about something is easy, but sometimes the difficult thing is being able to express opinions in the form of original content. Engaging with others on social media can also expand your network,” said Shelly. Personal branding has many important components, he continued, there are identity, perception, achievement, brand, ecosystem, network and content.
Meanwhile, Geza Al-Banna said that the era of globalization makes a person must be able to have a strong positive personal branding so that people are able to see the values that exist in a person. (Wulida/zam)
