Unesa.ac.id., MALANG—The 2024 ASEAN University Games (AUG) Preparatory Committee held meetings and workshops to strengthen AUG preparations at the Rayz UMM Hotel, Malang on Monday-Wednesday, 2-4 October 2023.
< p>This agenda was attended by the ranks of the ASEAN University Sports Council (AUSC), the Belmawa Directorate, the Central Management of the Indonesian Student Sports Development Agency (PP Bapomi), the leaders of nine universities in Surabaya-Malang, the East Java Bapomi, the leadership of the parent sports organization, and others.PP Bapomi representative, Dr. Mu'arifin, M.Pd., said that Indonesia's appointment as host of the AUG was not immediate. There is rationalism and argumentation. One of the reasons is because Indonesia is very adequate for organizing events, especially multi-event ones.
Related to this, PP Bapomi offered to organize AUG to provincial Bapomi. Well, it turns out that Bapomi East Java submitted itself as the most prepared and lively. After identifying readiness in various aspects, East Java was finally selected as host for AUG 2024.
He added, previously, in AUG 2005, East Java had also been the host and this time his party was committed to providing the best and event which was memorable for all participants from the Southeast Asian countries involved. Therefore, all parties take part to make this activity a success.
"The burden is heavy. So, to make it light, we get involved and share. That's why, the only AUG is being held in two different places right now. The locations are Suma, Surabaya and Malang, which involves 9 universities, "5 in Surabaya and 4 in Malang," he explained.
Meanwhile, the chief executive of AUG 2024, Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., said that the discussion this time targeted two things, namely, finalizing proposals for the implementation of the AUG and technical handbooks for each sport.
He added that making this event a success is the state's duty and concerns the good name of the nation Indonesia in the eyes of the people of ASEAN countries. Therefore, all parties and levels must be involved.
Regarding this activity, his party has previously coordinated with various parties such as the ASEAN University Sports Council, central and regional governments, sports federations and other related parties.
"Right now we are preparing materials to face the Governor of East Java. Yesterday we contacted him and together with our Belmawa friends we immediately appeared," said the man who is the Chancellor of UNESA.
For Cak Hasan, AUG 2024 is a momentum to show the best performance and achievements to the ASEAN community. He truly believes that with commitment and cooperation, AUG can be successful in terms of organization, achievements, cross-university collaboration, as well as success in other fields.
Secretary General of AUSC, Roy, in his speech expressed his appreciation for the commitment and readiness of all parties in East Java who have so far finalized various matters related to AUG.
From various experiences and cooperation between East Java and Indonesia in carrying out previous multi-events, they believe that AUG is what the ASEAN community has been waiting for. "Hopefully these two days of activities will get the best activity output according to shared expectations," he hoped.
Information, the nine universities hosting the AUG 2024 sports in Malang are Muhammadiyah University of Malang (UMM), Islamic University of Malang (Unisma) , Malang State University (UM), Brawijaya University (UB).
Meanwhile in Surabaya, namely Surabaya State University (UNESA),
Airlangga University (Unair), Sepuluh Nopember University of Technology (ITS), University of Surabaya (Ubaya) and Veterans National Development University of East Java (UPN Jatim). (*)
