
PLB students explained the learning media innovations they designed to exhibition visitors.
Unesa.ac.id, Surabaya – Special Education Undergraduate Study Program (PLB), Faculty of Education (FIP)Surabaya State University (Unesa) held an exhibition of innovative learning media in Building 06 FIP, Campus 2 Lidah Wetan, Surabaya on Tuesday, January 7 2025. The exhibition, which is an output of the Learning Media course for Children with Special Needs, displays 55 learning media.
The learning media is for children with special needs or people with disabilities, starting from people who are blind, deaf, intellectual, autistic, motor-physical, special intelligent, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or ADHD, to people with learning difficulties, and slow learners.
"These various learning media innovations are the result of a long process by students which involved assessing children's characteristics, developing prototypes, and even limited field trials," said Devina Rahmadiani Kamaruddin Nur, one of the course lecturers.
p>He added, this exhibition is an annual agenda which is the culmination of the students' one-semester learning process in developing media. "Students carry out a needs assessment, make a prototype, then there will be revisions, until finally they produce a final product that meets those needs which is displayed," he explained.

Another lecturer, Vivi Kurnia Herviani, added that the advantage of this course is its focus on the needs of each student. The media created must be adapted to the characteristics of individual children, because each ABK has different needs.
"The hope is that society will also begin to understand that ABK learning is not only limited to self-development, but also includes academic and development aspects. children's character," he stressed.
Ni Made Marlin Minarsih, lecturer who teaches courses in the opening session, said that this exhibition is a form of implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) based courses.
Students learn directly in the field, making prototypes, testing media, and finally creating media. "The resulting learning media is used on campus and also donated to schools and the community," he said.

One of the learning media on display is Cozy House, the work of a group consisting of Feren Salsabila, Maywan Susmitasari, and Marsyanda Kurnia. This media combines Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) lessons with life skills (life skills).
Like combing hair, buttoning clothes, opening and closing bottles, and cleanliness by separating organic and inorganic waste using flashcards with pictures.
“We also added counting practice with an abacus and a mini ATM machine. "Before trying this exercise, children are asked to feel the texture of the grass, in order to train their motor flexibility," explained Maywan Susmitasari.
The advantage of this media lies in the variety of material which includes self-development, life skills and academic exercises. . However, this group plans to develop the media to be more portable in the future.
"We hope that this media can help children develop motor skills, increase creativity and improve their learning performance," he hoped.[*]
