Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-In order to answer the needs of future vehicles, UNESA Faculty of Engineering lecturers present innovative electric vehicles designed specifically for people with disabilities. The environmentally friendly and disability-friendly vehicle will be made into IPR and is a year-end gift for UNESA and the Indonesian people.
Ir. Achmad Imam Agung, M.Pd., the head of the innovation team stated that the motorcycle, which was named the Kece UNESA Motor, was indeed designed for disabled riders with the following specifications; speed of 60 km per hour. The mileage is 80 km with a speed of 3,500-7,000 rpm and a power of 100-150W. In addition, based on the results of field tests, the motorbike has a mileage of 146km. It has LED lights and has two extra wheels at the back.
In order for disabled riders to be comfortable, the rear wheel structure is designed with an independent system and is not connected to the main motor circuit. “When one wheel hangs, the other wheel can still move. The driver is in the center wheel," he explained.
The Electrical Engineering Education Lecturer continued, their innovation vehicle has another advantage, namely the efficient charging time, which is only 3 hours and can be used to cover a distance of 80 km. The mileage can go up to 160 km with a recycle energy system or energy recycling. Recycle energy means utilizing the rotation of the wheel to turn a generator that can be used to charge the motor. "So every rotation of the vehicle's wheels can produce electrical power," he explained.
The idea of an electric vehicle, apparently stems from the results of discussions with several parties. Initially, the plan was to only design electric vehicles for Satpol PP operations, both motorbikes and cars based on the provincial government's request. Then the UNESA leadership asked for electric vehicles to be made too, but for people with disabilities. "From there we designed and this is the result," he said, pointing to the motorbike beside him.
In its development, the UNESA Kece motorbike went through several stages. 1) Preliminary Field Testing or initial field trials, 2) Main Product Revision or revising test results, 3) Main Field Testing or field trials, 4) Operational product revision or revision of field test results, 5) Operational field testing or testing eligibility and 6) Final Product Revision or final product revision.
Initially he and his team intended to design specifically for disability. However, recently, they designed it with a multifunctional mode. One side can be used by people with disabilities and can be used by non-disabled drivers. "If you want to use a non-disabled, you just need to remove the wheels and install them as needed. We mean this so that the range of use of the motorbike can be wider," he said.
Because the whole idea and design of the vehicle is purely from UNESA, they will apply as HKI. He hopes that the motorbike can be an environmentally friendly and disability-friendly alternative transportation used in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, UNESA Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., appreciated the innovation. He stated that the motorbike would be donated to a foundation or to those in need. "We have coordinated with the Governor (Khofifah Indar Parawansa, ed)," he said during the UNESA 57th Anniversary Peak.
His party together with the electric motorcycle innovation team will strive to cooperate with industry so that it can be mass-produced and become an alternative vehicle for the community. "This is cool, because in the future, vehicles that use fuel have begun to be reduced, in addition to depleting fossil energy sources, the risk to the environment is also high, electric motors are the vehicle of the future," he said.
The team of lecturers who are members of the motorcycle design are; Ir. Achmad Imam Agung., M.Pd., Wahyu Dwi Kurniawan, S.Pd., M.Pd., Muamar Zainul Arif, S.Pd, M.Pd., Arif Widodo, ST, M.Sc., Yuli Sutoto Nugroho , S.Pd., M.Pd., and Yoga S. In the process, they are also assisted by several practitioners who are experts in their fields. #UNESA Innovation #UNESASatuLangkahDi Front [UNESA Public Relations]
