Unesa.ac.id., SURABAYA—Surabaya State University (UNESA) is holding a Knowledge Sharing Workshop on Using Websites for two days, Wednesday-Thursday, 8-9 May 2024 at the Swiss-Belinn Airport Hotel, Surabaya. This activity, which is handled by the Subdirectorate of Infrastructure and Information Technology and the Data Center, is intended to strengthen the website management team at the faculty and study program level.
Vice Chancellor III for Research, Innovation, Rankings, Publications and Science Center, Dr. Bambang Sigit Widodo, M.Pd., said that UNESA is committed to continuing to improve website governance so that it becomes more digitally recognized.
One of the things being done is strengthening human resources or website management teams at the faculty and study program level. According to him, websites play an important role in various activities and world rankings that UNESA participates in.
"Many international ranking agencies measure the activities and productivity of institutional websites. Not only Webometrics, but also a number of other rankings," < /p>
Director of Innovation, Ranking and Scientific Publications, Prof. Nadi Suprapto, S.Pd., M.Pd., Ph.D., continued that the UNESA website needs to be improved from various aspects, starting from structure, layout, to content quality.
Apart from that, website management between universities, faculties and study programs must be integrated into one system. "I hope this training can be an important provision for all of us to organize and improve the quality of institutional websites," hoped the FMIPA professor.
The resource person for this activity was Muhammad Noor Fakhruzzaman, S.Kom., M.Sc ., as Coordinator of the Website Division at the Unair Communication and Public Information Center (PKIP). He said that the management of the Unair website is based on studies.
"Everything is not just displayed, starting from the aspect of what information is on the homepage or front page, the rubrics to the layout, everything is based on usability studies," he said.
Apart from that, university, faculty and study program websites and other work units have been integrated into one large system. Integration allows data to always be updated without involving admin. Unair positions the website as a window to the world. The world gets a first impression of the institution through the website.
"By having a definite goal, all website designs will lead to the same goal. Apart from that, it also requires the commitment and competence of human resources is in it," he explained.
Unair implements a bilingual system on the website by relying on human translators to translate every concept on the website. Also, using WPML language-switcher management, to ensure that the translation job settings do not overlap.
"We at PKIP Unair currently have 2 Indonesian translators -English, which works every day with a target of 12 news articles per person," he explained.
The website is directly related to Webometrics, one of the indicators of which is impact. This indicator measures how many inbound links lead to the university website. For this reason, not only should the amount of content be increased, the quality of the content must also be increased.
There are several strategies that can be implemented to improve website governance, namely advertising both on Google and YouTube; utilize other channels such as social media, Instagram, YouTube, Tiktok, X; and collaborate with external media. Also required training and content writing competency. "Planting backlinks or search engine optimization is also necessary," he said.[]
