Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA—The UNESA Social Sciences Education Student Association held a seminar entitled "Actualizing the Youth Pledge for the Achievement Generation" to commemorate Youth Pledge Day, which was held at Building I6 Fisipol, Monday (28 October 2024).
This seminar presented Bayu Kurniawan, Coordinator of the Social Sciences Education Study Program, State University of Malang (UM), as the main speaker. He presented material regarding history, values, and the actualization of the Youth Pledge in a modern context.
Bayu Kurniawan explained that the Youth Pledge is an important milestone that teaches national unity through "One Homeland, One Nation, One Language. ” He emphasized the importance of nationalism and mutual cooperation for the younger generation, especially in facing the challenges of globalization and rapid technological developments.
"The younger generation must be able to adapt and utilize technology to broaden national horizons and promote Indonesia's achievements in the international world," he said.
Apart from seminars, this event was enlivened by Sosec (Social) participants The 7th Science Education Competition) which competes in the socio-economic field. Diana Anggita Nareswari, UM student, shared her experience while participating in the competition.
According to him, competition is quite tight. However, he managed to win first place at university level after showing the best presentation in English.

“At first I felt nervous- I'm nervous, but I try to show my best so as not to disappoint UM. "Alhamdulillah, hard work has yielded sweet results," he said proudly.
From the junior high school category, Yoe Nino Huriana from SMPN 2 Jombang managed to take home first place. He expressed his pride in being able to explore the values of the Youth Pledge in this competition.
“It was a pleasure to participate, this is a rare opportunity to understand the history of the Youth Pledge in more depth. "I feel the younger generation needs to maintain unity by respecting differences," said Yoe.
This seminar provides a new perspective for participants on the importance of the Youth Pledge in the modern era. Bayu Kurniawan continued, the Youth Pledge must be a foundation that strengthens the pride of the younger generation in the nation's culture.
"Through the Youth Pledge, we can foster a love of language, culture and homeland, which is the foundation for national unity," he said.
Yoe Nino also added that the spirit of the Youth Pledge not only be history, but must be a guide in everyday life. “This spirit of unity can be realized through mutual respect between friends and communities. "I think that is one concrete form that we can take as a young generation," he said.
At the end of the session, the participants agreed that commemoration of the Youth Pledge is not only ceremonial, but also a call for the younger generation in contribute to the progress of the nation.
"As students, we can start studying diligently, then use the knowledge we gain for the progress of Indonesia," concluded Yoe Nino.[*]
