Unesa.ac.id. , SURABAYA—Japanese Language Education Study Program (HMP) Student Association (PBJ), Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS), Surabaya State University (UNESA) successfully held Japan Pop Culture or JPC at FBS T1 Field on November 23-24 2024.
With the theme Kibou No Toshi, which means the year of hope, this festival is expected to make enthusiasts and hobbyists alike come together to celebrate a Japanese cultural festival like in Sakura Country.
Chief executive, JPC 2024, Lailatul Putra Ali Susilo, PBJ undergraduate student, said that this event was held as a form of introduction to Japanese culture through festivals and to increase interest in Japanese for students and the general public.
Vice Dean 1 of FBS gave a speech at Japan Pop Culture 2024.
This festival is divided into several activities . On the first day, there were academic competitions such as Kakitori, a competition for listening and writing katakana, hiragana and kanji.
There is also shodo, namely writing Japanese calligraphy, quizzing, rodoku or story telling, and happy taikai or presentation in Japanese. "There are two levels of competition, high school and university," said Lailatul.
Meanwhile on the second day, it was filled with cultural competitions such as J-song singing, character design competition, and coswalk. It didn't stop there, the excitement also came from several guest stars, including cosplayers Mony, Faixvey, and Jetsukii.
Typical Japanese clothing, the kimono gives participants and visitors the impression that they are in Japan.
Also enlivening the appearance of Japanese culture from UNESA students, Sakura Odori and Yosakoi dance, Taiko, Babymetal Surabaya band, Sekai Project, Kiseki, Moccatune, HT-One, Akiba Street, Idolwish, Kapukeki, Eternity Knights, and Fureilla.
This activity received a good response from the community, it was proven that around 3,000 visitors came to take part in this event which has been held by HMP Japan for 16 years.
A positive response also came from Deputy Dean 1 of FBS, Didik Nurhadi. He said that all forms of effort made by students, lecturers and parties who supported the holding of this event should be appreciated.
This activity is expected to further introduce the UNESA Japanese Language Study Program to the general public.
“I am very proud and grateful "Thank you to the parties who helped make this event run well, hopefully this activity can be an opportunity to strengthen UNESA's relationship with the community and hopefully this event can be even better in the future," he added when officially opening the JPC 2024.
Kharisma, one of the participants, expressed her excitement when taking part in JPC 2024. This woman from Surabaya admitted that the event was very exciting and made her not tired of waiting even though it was paused because of the rain.
“It's really exciting, the guest stars are really cool, lots of tenants and drinks too. "But it was paused because of the rain, maybe next year it can be done indoors, especially since it's the rainy season," said the 21-year-old cosplayer. [*]
