Unesa.ac.id., SURABAYA—Research is one of the benchmarks for the excellence of higher education, therefore it needs to continue to be improved both in terms of quantity and quality, so that it really has an impact on accelerating the development of science, said innovation, and regional-state development.
In order to strengthen research-publication, the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) Surabaya State University (UNESA) is holding Competency Improvement in the Field of Research and PKM for UNESA lecturers, at Rectorate 11th Floor Auditorium, Tuesday 27 February 2024.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Madlazim, M.Sc., as UNESA Deputy Chancellor for Education, Student Affairs and Alumni, said that one of the university's advances was seen in its focus on research and community service (PKM). He expressed confidence that UNESA is optimistic about continuing to increase the level of research every year.
Apart from being an obligation, the importance of developing expertise in a field including innovation in content and research methods is an important aspect. Of course, increasing innovation is based on the research conducted.
"By increasing innovation, UNESA can continue to make significant contributions to the world of research, and maintain its reputation as a superior educational institution," he stressed.
This activity was attended by the resource person, Prof. Dr. Ir. M. Faiz Syuaib, M.Agr., as Director of Research, Technology and Community Service, Directorate General of Higher Education, Research and Technology (Ditjen Diktiristek) Kemendikbudristek.
Prof. Faiz Syuaib emphasized the importance of improving the quality of the research field, including increasing quantity, quality and reputation. Emphasis is placed on reputation because it is an achievement that includes aspects of quantity and quality of research.
He continued that efforts to improve reputation require balanced achievements in both aspects.
"Indonesia itself has potential "is big in research, and of course the research must be of the best quality because universities have a strategic role in supporting sustainable development," he said.
Researchers, he said, must understand the problems in the surrounding community and produce research that becomes a solution . Universities have an important role in creating reliable Human Resources (HR) in innovative science and technology.
The quality of research can be measured from the aspects of publications, citations and high impact, all of which are indicators of the quality of research. Regarding encouragement for research, Prof. Faiz emphasized the use of technology to encourage innovation.
"Research and innovation results must be in accordance with the needs and potential of society and contextual in relevant situations," he stressed.

Regarding research in Indonesia, Prof . Faiz said that publication platforms like Sinta really support research. However, higher education participation in research and service in 2023 will not be optimal. He hopes that participation will increase this year.
Some research and community service schemes have similarities, but also have some changes. Changes to the 2024 research scheme from DRTPM, with special research for novice lecturers focused outside Java. This reflects a commitment to supporting inclusivity and dissemination of research to wider areas.
On that occasion, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Turhan Yani, M.A., Director of LPPM highlighted the importance of involving competent resource persons in increasing competence in the field of research and service.
He noted changes to the scheme in 2024, especially regarding the assignment of study program coordinators with international accreditation, who will receive financial support for coordination of study programs resulting in international journal publications.
Prof. Turhan also reminded to immediately complete research proposals and emphasized the urgency in the finalization process. "Speed in preparing research proposals is very important to ensure the implementation of innovative ideas," he said.
In addition, this activity was attended by Prof. Dr. H. Haris Supratno, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, University Academic Senate, dean, director, UNESA lecturer and several representatives from the University 17 August 1945. []
