Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA – There is good news for prospective applicants for the selection of new UNESA students this year. The reason is that the "One Step Ahead" campus has opened a Data Science or Data Science undergraduate study program on the SPMB track or the 2022 independent pathway. The new study program is predicted to be the prima donna and sought after in the digital era.
Head of Data Science Study Program, Dr. Elly Matul Imah, M. Kom., said that the study program he leads is under the coordination of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UNESA. Data Science is an applied science that studies and analyzes data, including numerical data, both structured and unstructured. In other words, Data Science is a study program that studies how to process and interpret data.
“This study program will produce graduates as data scientists, data analysts, data engineers, digital entrepreneurs, research assistants, and competent data science developers. Data Science is used in all fields and sectors," said Elly Matul Imah.
According to him, this study program abroad has been very developed. Meanwhile in Indonesia it is still very limited. Even though the need for human resources in the field of data science is getting higher. Many companies and government agencies are in dire need of human resources with data science competencies.
Currently, he continued, IT and programming competencies are considered incompatible with the demands of big data-based technological advances. Therefore, we need human resources who have special abilities related to data, namely through the Data Science study program.
In Indonesia, there are already 14 similar study programs in Indonesia. In East Java, there are 2 similar study programs that already existed. "In other campuses, it's more about engineering. Meanwhile at Unesa, apart from engineering, there is also a strengthening of the creativity side and the foundation of Data Science. As a differentiator, this study program at UNESA adopts the main points of the data science curriculum issued by the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) and is adapted to the industrial world," he explained.
In addition, the curriculum used has only been released in 2021 and of course it has been adapted to the needs of international data science human resources and was compiled with Kominfo, Coventry University, and the Indonesian Data Scientist Association. As an effort to strengthen the competence of graduates, UNESA collaborates with Kominfo for professional competency training for graduates of the UNESA Data Science study program.
“This is one of the differences between the Data Science study program at UNESA and other campuses. God willing, students will graduate with competencies and certificates of professional competence.
