Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-The State University of Surabaya (UNESA) will hold the 2021 Triathlon which will take place on 2-5 December 2021 at the Lidah Wetan Campus. Triathlon is a competition that consists of three different sports; swimming, cycling and running. The participants must pass the series of sports continuously within a certain period of time.
Dr. Donny Ardy Kusuma, M.Kes., Deputy Chairperson of the 2021 UNESA Triathlon in his remarks stated that the competition was attended by 11 representative teams from various provinces throughout Indonesia. It was the first Triathlon held by UNESA and the first to be held in the campus area.
So that the sport is increasingly known to the wider community and can attract talented athletes, it is possible that the triathlon will become a routine competition that will be held by UNESA in the future.
With this race, it is hoped that the best athletes who can represent Indonesia will be selected to improve achievements in the Southeast Asian and Asian arenas. Indonesia's previous achievements; three bronze in the triathlon and one gold in the biathlon. "Hopefully next year the bronze can become gold and the gold will add more gold," he hoped.
Meanwhile, when opening the event, Arman van Kempen, Chairman of the Pengprov for the Indonesian Triathlon Federation (FTI) East Java said that the athletes who competed in the competition fell in three numbers; triathlon, biathlon and aquathlon. The three numbers are one of the selection events as well as preparation for the sporting event in 2022-2023.
In May 2022, Indonesia will face the Southeast Asian Games or SEA Games in Vietnam. Then, they will be involved in the Asian Games or Asian Games in September 2022. Then there will also be the Asian Beach Games (ABG).
In 2023, Indonesia will also be involved in the SEA Games in Cambodia and the World Beach Games (WBG). At the WBG later, there will be triathlon and aquathlon matches. "This is our joint effort and preparation, hopefully this can run smoothly and superior athletes will emerge who are able to make Indonesia proud on the world stage," he explained.
