New FMIPA students take part in a series of PKKMB in their faculties.
Unesa. ac.id, SURABAYA—In order to motivate and equip students to navigate the world of lectures, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) invited speakers from among entrepreneurs and professionals in the ongoing Introduction to New Student Campus Life (PKKMB). during the last week of August 2024.
The Dean and professor of FMIPA, Wasis, said that being a student is not only about attending lectures, but also about developing oneself through various activities outside the classroom. Students must be active in various activities that support competency development, one of which is through the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program.
"There are many programs to choose from, such as Certified Independent Study Internship (MSIB) for students from pure study programs, and Teaching Campus for students from education study programs," he said.
The Dean emphasized the importance of understanding the internet of things or IoT in this digital era. According to him, IoT not only changes the way of life, but also influences the way of learning and working. IoT allows data collection and analysis on a large scale, which is very important in preparing everything, including big data management.
The determining factor for a country's superiority lies in four main aspects: innovation, natural resources, labor and infrastructure and the independence of a country. "Innovation has a very significant role, around 45%, in determining the superiority of a nation," he explained.
The FMIPA professor invited students to become young innovators who not only excel in science. academic, but also contribute significantly to the development of technology and science. It is necessary to take advantage of every opportunity that exists during lectures, both through MBKM and other activities to hone skills and insight.

One of the entrepreneurs presented by FMIPA in PKKMB was Hendy Setiono, CEO of Baba Rafi. According to him, being an entrepreneur is not just about starting a business, but also about being ready to take risks and dream big. The next step emphasized by Hendy is conducting in-depth market research. He explained that understanding the target audience, studying competitors, and following emerging market trends are the keys to finding potential business opportunities.
“Comprehensive market research allows us to understand consumer needs and preferences, as well as identify gaps in the market that can be exploited,” he added.
