Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA-Faculty of Food Security (FKP) Surabaya State University (Unesa) presents Wen-Chi Huang, professor of the Department of Agribusiness Management, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, Taiwan in Visiting Professor, on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
Factors that affect agricultural processes and products, especially in traditional agricultural systems that rely on climate and weather conditions.
"Climate change influences weather conditions, such as irregular rainfall patterns, increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, as well as the shift in the planting season," said the Professor of Unesa.
Even though modern agriculture has been based on the use of technology, it still understands climate change is very important both for academics and agricultural actors. For this reason, FKP brought experts from the 'Formosa Country'.
"With this activity we strengthen understanding and project how the dynamics of climate change in the future, how to anticipate and mitigate the risks, so as to reduce the potential loss of harvest yields and economic losses," he said.
Isnawati, Deputy Dean 1 FKP Unesa conveyed the importance of this topic to be discussed. "We can get a global insight into the agricultural sector which can be a reference for lectures and study program activities and make a major contribution to food security in Indonesia," he said.
In the material session, Wen-Chi Huang delivered the pillars of food security and the importance of adaptation to climate change. The pillar of food security includes affordability, availability, quality and security, sustainability and adaptation.
Professor of Agribusiness said that the ranking of sustainability and adaptation in Indonesia is in the red area. "Based on data from the Economist Impact, the ranking of sustainability and adaptation of Indonesia is in the red area," he explained.
Wen-Chi Huang conveyed the importance of adaptation to climate change to increase food security. According to him, the core of a formidable agriculture is to accelerate the development of basic environmental networks, encourage adaptation to climate change, strengthen agricultural resilience, and ensure food security.
"Climate change is a trend that cannot be changed. In dealing with the risk of agricultural business, we must guide the appropriate planting regional movement through an intelligent adaptation to make agriculture more resilient," he concluded. Ω
