Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-The construction of the Surabaya State University (UNESA) Doping Laboratory (Lab) has been completed. The Head of the East Java Regional Settlement Facility (BPPW), the Directorate General of Human Settlements (DJCK), the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (Ministry of PUPR) handed over the management and continued construction of the building to the UNESA Chancellor at the Lab Lobby, Lidah Wetan Campus, Surabaya, on Tuesday (5/7/2022).
Director of Strategic Infrastructure, PSPOP, DJCK, Ministry of PUPR, Ir. Essy Asiah M.T., said that the Doping Lab building was built from 2021 and completed in 2022, UNESA can manage it properly according to its designation. The construction of this building, he continued, had followed the applicable standards and regulations.
The lab building is different from the construction of a campus building in general. Because it requires several sports facilities that must use national and even international standards.
Using Domestic Products
He added that there was a direct order from President Joko Widodo to use domestic products so that in the construction, all of them used products that were available domestically. In addition to advancing the nation's economy, it is also easier to maintain and getting spare parts is easy.
"We hope that this can be put to good use in fostering athletes from East Java and Indonesia so that they can achieve even more. This is what we hope, athletes will be able to boast of Indonesia's big name in the eyes of the world, "he hoped.
UNESA Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., said, after the handover, the building will then be equipped with various facilities and equipment needed so that it can be used gradually for coaching DBON athletes at UNESA, whose coaching program will start at the end of July 2022.
President Joko Widodo's 'dream'
The man who is called Cak Hasan continued, the lab is a necessity for Indonesia and the dream of President Joko Widodo. When he received the award as a national sports coach in 2020, the president reminded sports observers that Indonesia does not yet have a Doping Lab. This is also the concern of the Minister of Youth and Sports.
Well, the realization of the development of the Doping lab at UNESA, may be the only one in Indonesia.

Inspired by WADA in Japan
Cak Hasan said that some time ago he had 'study' at the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in Japan. At that time, the Unesa Doping Lab Building was still empty and there was no equipment at all. The Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia undertakes to immediately fill this building with equipment this year (2022).
"The Minister (Menpora Zainuddin Amali, ed) said that the tools or equipment were ready to be imported so that they could gradually be used for DBON at UNESA," he said.
The Unesa Doping Lab has many benefits. Among other things, to prepare Indonesian athletes for the 2032 Olympics. In addition, this lab is also expected to be able to provide color and prepare athletes so that doping problems do not occur.
So far, every time there is a doping issue, the samples are taken to neighboring countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, and even India which of course requires a process and stages that take a lot of time. When there is a problem, now it can be done at UNESA.

Some Facilities Are Available
Not only doping issues, the lab is also a center for coaching and handling athletes. “For example, if someone is injured, recovery and so on can be done at the Sport Science and Fitness Center Doping Lab UNESA. Everything is complete," he said.
After signing the handover, the UNESA Chancellor along with the Head of BPPW East Java reviewed the initial facilities that were already available in the building. There is a fitness and training center on the fourth floor, a cooling room for athlete recovery on the third floor, a swimming pool building connector bridge, worship equipment on the second floor as well as a sauna room, whirlpool, stream pool, running track and so on.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Head of Sub-Directorate for Technical Planning of the Directorate of Strategic Infrastructure of DJCK, Ministry of PUPR, Head of Sub-Directorate for Region II, Head of the Regional 1 Settlement Infrastructure Implementation Unit for East Java Province along with the Director of PT Diatasa Jaya Mandiri and the Director of PT Riau Multi Cipta Dimensi.
