Unesa.ac.id., SURABAYA—The ability to collaborate and adapt is important for young Indonesians, especially students. This was conveyed by the General Chair of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Dr. (H.C) H. Erick Thohir, B.A., M.B.A., in front of thousands of students participating in the UNESA Public Lecture on Friday, 8 September 2023.
For Erich Thohir, collaboration is a commitment to jointly build this nation based on principles concern. That is the spirit that colors the economic development carried out by the government which leads to efforts to realize the prosperity of the Indonesian nation.
"Don't let this economic development be good, but create pleasure. That is what must not be done. This means, we must work together ," said the man who also heads the Ministry of BUMN.
Sports, he continued, has economic issues that cannot be separated from several things, including; downstreaming of natural resources (food industrialization), digital economy and creative industries which include sports.
Sports cannot only be industry-oriented, making it part of unifying the nation. As in the development of the world of Indonesian football, for example, it cannot be just the euphoria of winning the SEA Games. What needs to be done is to build a winning tradition.
This tradition can be born if a system is built from top to bottom. Therefore, sustainable football development must be done together. "By having a good national team, the red and white can fly. The effect can be seen when the Indonesian national team plays Argentina. The red and white is flying, there is development and economy," he explained.
In order to advance Indonesian football, the sector Referees and coaches must pay attention. Japan alone, whose population is below that of Indonesia, has a number of referees and coaches reaching 80 thousand people. For coaches alone it could be more than 20 thousand.
To improve the quality and quantity of referees and coaches, the party is collaborating with a number of LPTK universities, including UNESA and the Indonesian Sports Deans Forum. In this way, referee-coaches have even higher abilities, because they have completed two to four years of education.
In response to various student questions, Erick Thohir also conveyed the importance of a positive mindset and adaptability. He advised students to continue and be enthusiastic about learning, developing themselves and gaining more experience. Because, Indonesia's future is in the hands of today's young people and students.
This activity is an inspiration for the students. Samantha Celia, a Biology undergraduate student, admitted that she felt lucky because she was given the opportunity to take part in a guest lecture and meet Erick Thohir in person. He got a lot of insight and motivation.
Ahmed felt the same thing about Javier Kusuma, a student of the D4 Sports Coaching study program and Setyo Dwi Kurniawan from the Bachelor of Sports Management. They were happy to be able to directly gain knowledge from one of the important people in Indonesia.
This public lecture was coupled with the signing of an MoU and MoA between PSSI and 12 LPTK Chancellors throughout Indonesia as well as the Indonesian Sports Deans Forum. Apart from that, there was also the inauguration of several UNESA sports facilities, including: the Football Laboratory and the Horse Riding Laboratory.
Also present at this activity were PSSI Deputy Zainuddin Amali and PSSI exco staff. Also the ranks of LPTK rectors, LPTK Forum administrators, Dean of Sports and Health Sciences (FIKK), rector leaders, deans, lecturers and students around UNESA. (*)
