Religion lecturer and psychologist at Surabaya State University explains how to deal with the past wisely so that it doesn't become a burden.
Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA—The Directorate of Prevention and Handling of Strategic Issues (PPIS) of Surabaya State University (UNESA) again held an activity entitled 'Ngabuburit Bareng Genzi' which was broadcast directly via the UNESA Official Youtube channel on Thursday, March 21 2024.
The theme raised this time is about "Move On from the Past – You Are Not Alone". This activity is intended as a forum for the participation of the younger generation to together learn to overcome the burdens of the past and develop strong motivation for a better future.
As resource persons were Fitrania Maghfiroh, M.Psi., a psychologist, and Nurul Hikmah, Lc., M. Hi., a UNESA religion lecturer. Both of them were accompanied by the anti-narcotics ambassador, Ivanessya as moderator.
At first, Fitrania Maghfiroh explained a person's past from a psychoanalytic perspective. According to her, humans cannot be separated from the past. Even what is happening now is the result of formations from the past.
“We as humans cannot escape from the past. However, the past does not have to be a burden, but rather a motivation to improve yourself. Therefore, attitudes towards the past must not be mourned and regretted which means today's opportunities are wasted. "Make the past a lesson, motivation to increase your self-worth in the future," he said.
From a religious perspective, Nurul Hikmah explains several tips for freeing oneself from the shackles of the past, one of which is by emptying the heart of resentment and sadness that hinder spiritual growth.
"Loving ourselves and "focusing on positive things is the key to getting rid of the burden of the past. In essence, let's both understand the importance of a positive environment in the process of letting go of the burden of the past," he said.
In the final session, participants had the opportunity to share experiences about the problems they face so that they can be lessons and experiences for others.
This activity, which was received positively by student participants, was very inspiring and provided a deep understanding of the importance of letting go of the past and focusing on a better future. "Hopefully the messages conveyed in this event can help many people to start a new step in their lives," hoped Ivanessya. [*]
