Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA - There are many ways that can be done to instill a culture of literacy from an early age, one of which can be by making it easier for students to access learning resources as was done by the S-1 Educational Technology (TP) study program team at the State University of Surabaya (Unesa).
The team consisting of lecturers and students developed a digital library (digital library) which was implemented in a number of schools. Books that previously could only be read offline in the library or in class, can now be accessed digitally via devices owned by students.
Meanwhile, the library has been implemented at SDN Manukan Wetan 1 Surabaya, SDN Lidah Kulon 1 Surabaya, SDN Klagen Sidoarjo, SDN Wedoro Waru and TK Al-Husna Tanjung Asri, Surabaya.
“This project was developed to make it easier for students to access learning resources, including books that can be accessed anywhere via devices owned by students. This is at the same time to cultivate digital literacy in students from an early age," said Dr. Fajar Arianto, M.Pd., Unesa TP Lecturer.
He added that the digital library is one of the projects in the Management and Utilization of Learning Resources course program that he teaches with Citra Fitri Kholidya, M.Pd.
The development of digital libraries departs from the spirit of MBKM implementation by the Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology, which on the one hand encourages student creativity and innovation as well as has a positive contribution to society and schools.
The TP study program team identifies the problems that exist in the school. Apparently, students' reading access is still manual, while on the other hand students have cellphones (hp). This was then searched for answers and the digital library was born.
“It means that students can use cellphones for literacy while at the same time instilling awareness of digital literacy from an early age. Instead of using cellphones for others, we better get used to them using cellphones for learning purposes," he said.

The digital-based library will continue to be developed so that it can touch more educational institutions.
The innovation of the Unesa Education Technology study program was appreciated by the school, both principals, teachers and students. Muslikha, M.Pd, the Principal (Kepsek) of SDN Wedoro Waru expressed his gratitude because the digital library helped students in accessing reading material.
"This way, the task of the teacher in instilling literacy from an early age is more helpful and students can learn and read anytime," he said.
The same thing was expressed by Wafi, M.Pd., Principal of SDN Manukan Wetan 1. He expressed his support for the project. With a digital library, it is hoped that it can spur students to be creative in the form of work and develop a literacy culture with teachers and parents.
"Digital libraries really support learning and increase teacher knowledge of developing technology," said the Principal of SDN Klagen 1 Sidoarjo. [UNESA PR]
