Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-UNESA Lake, Lidah Wetan Campus, has its own charm. Its strategic location makes the 300 square meter lake always crowded with visitors. There are dozens of local residents who hang their living by selling there. Therefore, it needs to be developed further.
The development of the UNESA lake has been a discourse for a long time. In the near future, it seems that the lake will be beautified. The plan was discussed by the Surabaya City Government (Pemkot) and UNESA at the City Hall on Friday, July 15, 2022.
“UNESA Lake has potential and becomes a new tourist destination in the City of Heroes. This is planned to be arranged and made similar to Kalimas tourism. Later it will be decorated with lights and there will be water games," said Eri Cahyadi, Mayor of Surabaya.
The City Government and UNESA will work together to develop this new destination in West Surabaya. In addition to the lake, said Eri Cahyadi, his party will also organize and develop business actors around the area.
“Of course it also involves UNESA students for practical purposes. We are synergizing in moving the street vendors center. Hopefully, this synergy with UNESA can soon present a new tourist destination in Surabaya," he said.
Meanwhile, UNESA Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., welcomed and fully supported the new tourism development plan there. According to him, the location of the lake is very strategic. Besides being right in front of the rectorate, where the academic community and partners pass by, it is only about 1.4 km from the shopping center.
“The road in front of the lake is access to enter and exit the city center. Many stop by to hang out or eat. So it's always crowded," said Cak Hasan.
Cak Hasan hopes that tourism development can advance the local economy. MSMEs or street vendors can be neatly organized and develop. In addition, of course, it can encourage the Independent Learning program and the Independent Campus at UNESA. “Later, students can be directed to collaborate in developing culinary and water tourism there. The term can be a laboratory or a place for them to practice their respective scientific fields. Moreover, at UNESA, there are many study programs that support such as catering, for example,” he explained.
In the dean's time, UNESA will hold a campus market which was originally planned in the morning, but based on discussions with the City Government, it wants the market to be held in the evening. Of course, said the chancellor for the two periods, the schedule could be adjusted according to conditions on the ground. Most importantly, this cooperation program can advance the economy of the surrounding community and for an advanced and superior Surabaya.
During the meeting, Cak Hasan also conveyed the plan to open a sports medicine study program which will later cooperate with the Bhakti Dharma Husada Hospital (BDH) Surabaya City. “This collaboration covers many aspects.
