Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA- The Student Affairs and Alumni Division of the State University of Surabaya held a Character Education seminar for students who received the 2020 KIP-K scholarship. There were around 310 students. The activity was held in four waves by presenting various experts, academics to practitioners as speakers and inviting the UNESA generation to be the pioneers and movers of the nation's progress.
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Alumni Dr. Agus Hariyanto, M.Kes when opening the activity stated that the purpose of this activity is to increase the awareness of the nation's generation of the importance of character in the life of society and the state. Character is a personal or individual profile which in its implementation can form the collective character of a nation. "A great and developed nation is influenced by the character of its citizens," he said.
In other words, this activity is UNESA's effort to improve the soft skills of students so that they are able and responsible to influence the times and become key players now and in the future. According to him, the key to success in this century lies in the generation that has good hard skills and good soft skills. Soft skills are related to character or in other terms called the 4Cs, namely communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity. "I hope that UNESA students are not only smart and expert, but also honest and disciplined and can be trusted," he hoped.
One of the speakers in the first session and the first wave, Aan Anshori, S.H., M.H., Coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Islamic Network and Activist Roemah Bhineka stated that the issue of religious sentiment has been caused by several things. First, religious adherents tend to use the 'buyer' point of view. That is, a perspective that positions oneself or one's own group as superior to others.
Second, it can also be caused by negative stereotypes against other religions, such as considering their religion to be truer and better while other religions are inferior and infidels and so on. Then, third, prejudice, which is not minding that minority people are discriminated against. These three things can encourage religious people but perpetuate violence and discrimination in the name of religion.
"So what kind of religion do we want to be?" he said. According to him, in the scope of social and state life, it is better to develop a religious model that is in the form of believing that one's religion is TRUE (not MOST) without having to view other religions as inferior ('equal'). The character that needs to be possessed is the character of Pancasila. This means that the more religious the character, the more humane human beings are in a fair and civilized manner,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ima Fitananda Amelia Putri, S.AB., Ambassador of Anti-Drugs and Entrepreneurs at the same session said that students are intellectual ranks who are the fence that moves in the field to strengthen the country and nation today and in the future. The hope of the nation is in the hands of young people. Therefore, the task of young people and the nation's generation is to continue to learn and develop themselves and to implement their knowledge and skills to bring good benefits to the progress of society.
Learning from users who have realized, using drugs is nothing to be proud of, it can actually damage the future. Not only self-destruction, but also extended family, can be a problem in society and a problem for the country as well. Drugs can not be experimented with, because the stakes are the future. “Our own future, the future of the country too. Remember, when you are caught in drugs, you have the potential to drag users into crime or other forms of crime," he explained. "Instead of trying things that damage themselves and the nation, it's better to learn and work for a better future," he said.
