Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-Music other than as entertainment, also has an aesthetic function, communication, even as art and culture that is known to almost all circles. As technology advances, the development of music is getting faster and local talents are also popping up to color the global music world.
In order to support and provide public understanding of various aspects of music and the ins and outs of singles and the stories behind them, UNESA Communication Studies students established Brik Media, an independent music platform, specifically discussing all things music and supporting the work of local musicians.
Brik Media was originally born from the hands of Rachmad Febrianto or Ano with Oktario to fill their spare time in between their busy lives as final year students at UNESA. Ano said that they were not very active in campus UKM. So that there is a lot of free time outside of the lecture schedule and guidance.
Armed with a hobby of music and experience as a local magazine reporter when they were in high school, they then founded the media. "We make media that contains music so that time is filled, hobbies are channeled and so they can be productive," said Ano.
The student from Mojokerto added that Brik Media, as an independent music player, enlivened the music news platform on Instagram in mid-2018 by uploading the latest release of an emo/rock band from Malang, Beeswax, with the single 'pills'.
Name Bricks! itself is an absorption from English, 'break' which has the meaning to do something beyond one's own limitations. The tagline adopted is 'Let's Break The Wall'. Brik's initial goal was to get a comprehensive audience by continuously sharing information about music on Instagram social media.
In its development, the public response was quite good and encouraged Brik to continue to metamorphose into a music media that not only introduced local music, but also raised and discussed various Indonesian music.
"Currently we are focusing on Indonesian music to share with people that in Indonesia there is a lot of good music to be reviewed and needs more attention and that has not been discussed much in the mainstream media," explained Ano.
Brik Media can be visited at brikmusik.com and on other social media such as on YouTube, You can also stop by on Instagram, BRIK! Media that already has about 1.3 thousand followers. In its third year of its journey, Brik as an independent music media has collaborated with more than 50 events on campus, small gigs created by the local community and several large corporations.
Even now, it has been included in the list of independent music media who are invited to attend press conferences of various big musicians such as Virzha, Dere to Sony Entertainment Music Label.
