Two UNESA students representing East Java competed in debate at the national level.
Unesa.ac.id., SURABAYA—Danu Anin Driansyah and Stefanny Florencia Elman, Bachelor of Civil Engineering and Bachelor of Education students Unesa English succeeded in continuing their struggle in the national level debate competition held at Ciputra University on 15-22 July 2024.
This is because they won a silver medal as the 7th best team in region III. Danu said that initially he took part in a selection held by the Faculty and became a delegate at university level.
After that, he was chosen as the second best speaker and Stefanny became the first best speaker. Unesa sent two of the best speakers as delegates to take part in the next stage of the KDMI selection process.
Danu and Stefanny were one of the teams that successfully passed the national selection from region 3 which included LLDIKTI VII (East Java), VIII (Bali), IX (South Sulawesi), XII (Ambon), XIV (Papua-West Papua), XV (NTT), XVI (Gorontalo). The KDMI is divided into three regions consisting of LLDIKTI throughout Indonesia.
In this national level competition they competed against 111 teams from all over Indonesia. He admitted that he had been preparing with Stefanny every day since it was announced that he had succeeded in qualifying for the national level.
Previously, they also took part in several debate competitions at universities and other institutions to find out how the participants' debating abilities were.
"In our opinion, the strongest opponent in region 3 yesterday was Airlangga University, Ciputra University, Hasanuddin University," he said.
Some time before, they had won 1st place in the Intervarsity Argumentum Competition in the beginner category, which is a debate competition between universities throughout Indonesia.
For Danu , the difficulty faced is dividing time between practice and lectures. Luckily, they can still practice even in the middle of assignments and theses.
Apart from that, they also get material from the trainer and do debate sparring to get used to the motions that are expected to arise.
“We continue to practice so that we can get chemistry. "Hopefully at this national level we can bring home a gold medal," he concluded.[]
