The Keroncong strains of UNESA students and local artists inherit the music of the archipelago

SURABAYA—Drama Arts, Dance and Music (Sendratasik) Study Program, Faculty of Languages ​​and Arts (FBS), Surabaya State University (UNESA) held a music parade entitled "Unesa Keroncong Parade 2024" on Wednesday, 04 December 2024 at the Sawunggaling Performance Building, Campus 2 Wetan Tongue.

This music parade, which is open to the public, is the result of collaboration with local artists to maintain the existence of keroncong in the midst of modernization. The aim is as a forum for developing the interests and talents of the younger generation in the field of music and preserving the musical arts of the country.

Senyum Sadhana, the supervisor of the UNESA Keroncong KKM, said that this parade was an event that not only popularized keroncong, but also strengthened relations with the local community.

"The enthusiasm for the activities is extraordinary. There are those from PGSD who are studying the art of music here. It is also hoped that this will provide valuable experience, especially in a building that has a sacred atmosphere like Sawunggaling," he said.

Performances with various musical genres which were then rearranged into keroncong came from nine groups, namely Kr. Srie Redjeki; Keroncong Sketsa; Paramuda Keroncong; Omysela; OK. Riang Gembira; OK . The Pride of Sidoarjo; OK Sari;

As part of the Sendratasik Festival, this parade is the third agenda in a series of arts activities held by the Sendratasik Study Program. Previously, the National Student Theater Festival was successfully held in October and the National Student Traditional Dance Festival in December.

"This activity reflects the extraordinary dedication of the KKM supervisors, lecturers and students under the HIMA Sendratasik Study Program, they are the main pillars of the success of this event," said Welly Suryandoko, Coordinator of the Sendratasik Study Program

Vice Chancellor II for Law, Management, Finance, Resources and Business, Bachtiar Syaiful Bachri gave high appreciation to UNESA's Keroncong KKM, which previously won national champion at the National Student Arts Week or Peksiminas.

The professor of curriculum development hopes This success is motivation to continue making achievements in the future. "I am waiting for the next champions from active students, to elevate keroncong music, and of course for the name and prestige of UNESA," he said.

Apart from that, he emphasized the importance of the role of the younger generation in preserving keroncong music. "Keroncong music is a heritage that we must protect, because even though it is not completely native to Indonesia, this art has been well cared for by our society," he stressed.

With the spirit of preserving traditional art, the 2024 Unesa Keroncong Parade Not only is it entertainment, but it is also a reminder of the importance of preserving Indonesia's cultural riches. This event succeeded in presenting a charming melodic harmony while fostering a sense of love for the art of keroncong and pride in UNESA.
