Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA—The Center for Halal Studies, Drug and Food Management, LPPM, Surabaya State University (UNESA) held a Halal Industry Webinar on Tuesday, 17 October 2023. This activity carried the theme "Halal Industry as an Effort to Support Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.
As keynote speakers, three speakers were present. 1) Prof. Dr. Hj. Siti Nur Azizah, S.H., M.Hum., Professor of Halal Business Law (Halal Products) and Deputy Chancellor IV UNESA, 2) Ratnaningsih, S.E., M.Ak., from the East Java Cooperatives and SMEs Service, 3) Dr. M. Sholeh, Secretary of the Halal Center, Airlangga University.
Director of LPPM UNESA, Prof. Dr. H. Muhammad Turhan Yani, M.A., said, this activity is important to encourage the halal industry which is in line with sustainable development goals or SDGs.
The halal industry, he continued, is not only related to compliance with religious rules, but is also a driving force for sustainable development.
In the context of the SDGs, the halal industry has a major impact on several development targets, including overcoming poverty, hunger and decent work.
“This webinar invites participants- who are students to understand how the halal industry can be an integral solution in achieving sustainable development goals," he said.
In the material session, Prof. Azizah discussed how education can be the main driving force in producing a skilled and innovative generation for supporting the halal industry.
Meanwhile, M. Sholeh discussed concrete steps that can be taken to improve the quality of halal products and maintain consumer trust as well as strategies for improving the quality of halal products.
Then, Ratnaningsih spoke about the role of MSMEs in the development of the halal industry, presenting case studies and best practices regarding how MSMEs can be actively involved in the halal industry supply chain.
From a different perspective, he also discussed the role of MSMEs in developing the halal industry in East Java, and how MSMEs can be a catalyst for inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
This halal industry webinar is part of UNESA's contribution and commitment to economic development and development in society especially MSMEs through education to students in improving the MSME sector from an educational world perspective. []
