Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA—The 'Growing with Character' (UNESA) Campus participated in the VIIIth National Seminar on Science, Technology, Economics, Education and Religion (Sainteknopak) which took place in the Yusuf Hasyim Building Hall, Hasyim Asy'ari University (Unhasy) Jombang on Saturday, November 30, 2024.
The leadership and deans of Surabaya State University (UNESA) attended the event with the theme "Strengthening HR Capacity in Supporting Sustainable Development Goals through Research and Community Service."
This theme was discussed by a number of main speakers who were experts from various universities, one of whom was Madlazim, professor and Deputy Chancellor I for Education, Student Affairs and UNESA Alumni.
On that occasion, Madlazim emphasized the importance of strengthening human resources through a holistic approach. Based on the March 2024 United Nations Development Program or UNDP report, Indonesia's Human Development Index (HDI) is still in the medium category in Asia.
"The focus of HDI is on human resources. We can see this interesting finding, countries with abundant natural wealth such as Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam have moderate HDI. Meanwhile, Singapore with limited natural wealth can have a high HDI, " he explained.
By referring to countries with good HDI, Indonesia can improve good governance in human resource development, which must be a top priority. Improving governance is very urgent, including realizing the vision of a Golden Indonesia 2045.
The professor and deputy chancellor I of UNESA was the main resource person at the Sainteknopak Unhasy seminar. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and a holistic approach in improving HR and boosting HDI towards a Golden Indonesia 2045.
That is, investment in education needs to be enlarged to improve the quality of education as a way to develop quality human resources. Madlazim proposed several solutions to improve the quality of Indonesian human resources.
First, increasing access and quality of education in all regions. Second, developing job competencies and skills (upskilling and reskilling). Third, improving health and welfare.
Fourth, strengthening HR policies and investment. Fifth, use of technology for HR transformation. Sixth, strengthening collaboration between government, higher education, industry or triple helix partnership.
"This final solution could be in the form of a strategic collaboration program to create competent human resources. It could also be in the form of an industrial internship program for students to strengthen practical skills," he said.
Apart from being a speaker, UNESA also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Unhasy along with 12 other East Java universities , such as Dinamika University Surabaya, PGRI Adi Buana University Surabaya.
