Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-In conducting interactions, communication plays an important role in order to understand each other what is conveyed by each other. In communicating, there are not a few who experience obstacles, it is referred to as communication barriers which can be caused by various factors.
In order to help people who experience communication barriers, four lecturers from the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) who are members of the Berbisa (Bersama Kita Bisa) group developed the EasyIndo application.
The lecturers in question are Hirnanda Dimas Pradana, M.Pd, Citra Fitri Kholidya, S.Pd., M.Pd., Khofidatur Rofiah, S.Pd., M.Pd and Sri Widayati, S.Pd., M.Pd.
Citra Fitri Kholidya explained that the application contains vocabulary that is packaged in the form of a video. The vocabulary is sourced from the Signalong Signaling System Dictionary which was developed by UNESA with Open University United Kingdom.
He added, EasyIndo was developed for people with disabilities and people who experience communication barriers. Even normal people can use the application to make it easier when communicating with those who have barriers to communicating.
"So the application can be used for the general public and people with disabilities as well as practitioners," he said.
EasyIndo is still in the process of further development and will be launched in the near future. Later it can be used by Android and iOS users.
The application development is part of a social project supported by the Pertamina Foundation, the UNESA Disability Service Center and Signalong Indonesia.
He hopes that EasyIndo can facilitate people who have communication barriers in interacting directly with those who do not have barriers. "Even normal ones should still understand and care that we are the same," he explained.
Khofidatur Rofiah added that the application they designed can also help facilitate the communication process between parents and children, one of which experiences communication barriers and helps teachers and students in the teaching and learning process at school.
"With the communication system that we present through this application, it is hoped that it will help the communication process between people with disabilities and normal people, fellow disabled people, for parents and children as well as for teachers and students in schools," he hoped.
