The PMI from Ponorogo in Hong Kong took part in educational activities about advocacy institutions organized by the UNESA PKM team in collaboration with the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong, and Dompet Dhuafa Hong Kong.
Unesa. AC ID. SURABAYA—A number of Surabaya State University (UNESA) lecturers who are members of the community service team or international PKM provided education regarding the role and function of advocacy institutions to Indonesian migrant workers or PMI who were in Hong Kong, on July 13-14 2024.
This activity, which involves a team of lecturers from various study programs around the 'House of Champions' campus, chaired by Deby Febriyan Eprilianto, is intended to strengthen the understanding of PMIs, especially those from Ponorogo, about tiered advocacy institutions.
" "Starting from the local level to the central level, from its position in Indonesia and in the destination country, and from formal to informal, it is very necessary for PMI to help with the various problems being faced," said Febriyan.
He added that this activity, which was supported by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) Hong Kong and Dompet Dhuafa Hong Kong, included the delivery of material and assistance through UNESA legal assistance. This is important to do, because many PMIs have conveyed the various problems they face, including duplicate data and family problems.
Providing support and advocacy is carried out to provide reinforcement and motivation that these problems can be resolved through assistance. Existing advocacy institutions such as the Indonesian Consulate General, legal aid institutions or LBH, Manpower Office, NGOs, and so on.
Apart from education, PKM UNESA also initiated the formation of the PMI regional community in Hong Kong. The community was agreed to be called IWPH (Ponorogo Citizens Association in Hong Kong), which was a proposal from the PMI who were present.
"Hopefully, this activity will continue and will be beneficial for PMI with the formation of this IWPH. We will continue to provide assistance to ensure that this IWPH is legal and becomes part of the Indonesian Consulate General so that it is integrated. We hope that the activities carried out can "In addition, it is hoped that the formation of the IWPH community will also be a precursor to the formation of other communities," he hoped.
The Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong welcomed this UNESA International PKM activity. Consul for Information, Social and Culture (Pensosbud) of the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong, Endah R. Yuliarti, said that the Indonesian Consulate General had provided advocacy facilities and media, but PMI had not yet fully understood and used them.
The existence of this regional community is very important is needed as the first party to help and then it can be directed to existing advocacy institutions such as the Indonesian Consulate General.
"If there is already a PMI community throughout Indonesia, but the large number of PMIs cannot touch all of them, and there are also many "For me, the formation of regional communities that are smaller in scope must exist and this is important," he said.
Ustadz Khusnul Muttaqin from Dompet Dhuafa Hong Kong also provides strengthening and motivating PMI from this aspect. religious. He advised PMI to continue to be united and not separate, to make things easier.
"Wolves pounce on goats that separate themselves from their herd and are alone. Don't separate yourself from the congregation and be with the congregation and the largest number of people ( from among the believers). Therefore, it is important for PMI to associate or gather by forming a community, starting with the smallest scope, namely regional," he said. [*]
